I get the frustration, but its interesting how a loss like this fuels the blatant agenda pushing.

We gave up on a game late in the third where we shot ourselves in the foot. Some of the better players on the team made critical unforced errors and our G was off. Kampf/ZAR blow an easy exit, Lilj makes a few basic mistakes and Marner throws a grenade up the middle when were pressing. Thats game right there when we didnt convert on earlier chances.

It'll be an interesting summer here if every hope or expectation isn't met in playoffs
There is a psychological aspect to this sport and we've seen our guys wilt in games that have some extra spice to them. Every playoff game will have that extra spice, and I think that's what frightens a lot of us.

It doesn't help that the team has played some of it's worst hockey in a while since the TDL moves were made.

Keefe needs to stop f***ing around, he tries to be too smart and changes things that don't need to be changed. It's the same shit he pulled in the CBJ/Tampa series, starting Nylander as the 2nd line C in game 5 costing us the game. Then the Tampa series, scratching Lily, playing Simmonds/Holl.

Don't fix it if it's not broken, the team was playing phenomenal team hockey, there was consistency and guys were comfortable. Just settle it down and go back to the basics and what was working. If this team fails again, it will be because of Keefe overthinking.

He has 0 goals and 3 assists in 12 games.

Quenneville did the same exact thing with hawks with 3 stanley cup... hbegore chicago incident became public was considerated like maybe the best coach in the world... keefe using the same strategy is trash and overthinking

Cooper using 11-7 is a fantastic coach but keefe using the same strategy because he having a lot of great D.. hes trash

Yesterday was not about system, it was individual mistake and pay for everyone of those mistake

1 by kampf
one by marner/rielly

You add samsonov was weak... you've got this result but overall toronto was by far the best team first 40 minutes but trailed 3-1

And i get that, but ive seen a lot more people blaming the coach or their favourite scapegoat - Keefe, Holl, the fact Tavares wears the C.

Im concerned this team simply doesnt have what it takes to win because of that wilting factor. If they lose in the playoffs -especially round 1, i think there has to be significant changes and that likely means moving on from 1-2 fan favourites. It could also mean a big step back for the team overall. It'll be interesting to see and interesting to watch which fans can put together a logic thought/opinion, even its opposing my views.

From what I’ve seen they have stopped playing team D. For the remaining 10 games their focus should be on stopping the opposition and capitalizing on mistakes. Forget the stupid plays like Marner tried last night that ended up in a break and a goal.

With Matthews and O’Rielly at center and Brodie and Gio on D they should be in a position to defend TBs top players 5v5, but something tells me that they won’t stick to it. They’re prone to making terrible mistakes with the puck.

I was about 60-40 in favour of the Leafs winning, now I think it’s 50-50.

A weird game, Leafs let it spiral out of control despite for the first 2/3’s really controlling play and missing out on some golden chances.

Turnovers were bad but it also seemed like every turnover went in the net.

Not that the Leafs deserves to win but the Isles sure had everything go their way.

A bad loss on the board, but it didn’t feel like a 7-2 beat down.

Liljegren mistake was really costly and cost 3 goal vs none for holl, thats the difference. He was responsible of first 2 goal and the 5th one...

1st goal: you can blame mccabe at 1st look but when you watch the replay carefully... you seing liljegren covering parise, mccabe saw it and try to move on the other side to pressure mayfield...at this moment liljegren left his covering and pressure mayfield... Mccabe saw it and tried to comeback to cover parise but was already too late...

2nd goal just a awful play

5th : cant clear the net and lost his 1v1 battle

I dont know whats happened with lilly, but since mccabe trade... his game is not there and personally the way lilly playing, i keep both of holl and gus over liljegren..

He need to came back at his first half level and if not, hes too risky to keep him in the regular line up
More than McCabe or Liljegren, Tavares was the one who wandered out of position on the first goal.

Second he made a good play to steal the puck, then flubbed the pass off the heel of his stick.

Fifth was weird with that deflection off McCabe's stick right into the slot.

All the defence are struggling, and I think it's mainly due to all the shuffling around.

Its one game. We know that Sami takes a dump every 3 or 4 starts so this isn't something new. I wish he wouldn't but it doesn't make me any more concerned than before the NYI game. They have a dozen games and O'Rielly's return to go. At least they aren't relying on Murray.

I went for a sandwich and almost missed it.
Yeah, I still hear about it from time to time but it wasn't my fault.

Old School.

The funnier part (and sorry to make this about me) is my wife's labour ended with a Caesarean. The nurse came and asked me if I was ready to gown up and go in and I turned to my father-in-law and said "I don't want to go in there" and he instantly said "I wouldn't go in there.". My mother-in-law said "Get your ass in there now.". :)

All true stories.

This is why I never agreed with going all in... This team has shown you time and time again they can't get it done, so you decide to sell a buncha future assets and change half the team and think for some reason this year has to be different...

Who knows if they even make it 7 games this time.
The problem is they change the wrong half of the team.

1st goal its liljegren who cover parise, mccabe saw it and try to go on the opposite side to pressure mayfield, lilly let parise alone and also moved in the other side to pressure mayfield and let parise all alone... Mccabe tried to came back to defend parise but was already too late. So he took his man and switch for an other one for no reason and put his team in bad position with a poor fecision making... thats lilly fault

2nd lilly was just soft, thats it

5th liljegren was in perfect position, he didn't clear the front of the net + lost his 1v1 battle... no reason to see holmstrom touch that puck, just clear it in the corner, thats was the play to do

My wife was in labor for 46 hours almost a year ago (our son turns one in a few days). I haven't yet had the nerve to tell her how tiring being up that long was for me.
Wow. Well…Good man; Don’t say it any time soon.

Every day is Mother’s Day at Chez SoupNazi I would suspect.

If there fans are happy with those losses, good for them. They also have championship memories to fall back on.
I'm guessing their fans weren't happy with those losses though but I guess like here, so may be delighted.

If you're happy with losses that's certainly your right as a fan to feel however you like.
Many others after year after year after year after year of disappointment find it a little concerning the disinterest shown by the team so close to the playoffs.

I'm certainly not upset, I've grown use to the disappointment.

I'm not happy with the loss my point is that even the most intense hardworking teams get blown out from time to time, and they really don't truly show anything about the team in general every team has bad nights no matter how strong the leadership group is. or how dedicated the group is. so to look at the games they get blown as and point to that as a reason the team wont win in the playoffs is ridiculous to me.

this game proves nothing really.

Yes, the Dubas Defense Team's agenda to deny Dubas' responsibility in this mess at all costs certainly is out of control.

When Shanahan came in he said he wants the Leafs to competitive year-in year-out, and that's what they've done.

At the time, they hadn't even made the playoffs for long stretches of time. Now they routinely make the playoffs and are one of the better regular-season teams in the league on a consistent basis.

They still haven't figured out how to win in the playoffs, but they have built a good foundation to work with. If they stay the course and continue what they're doing, playoff success will surely follow.

They just need to stick with it.

There are no shortcuts.
Staying the course with a flawed core, who up until the last playoff series, lacked "killer instinct", and typically lost in embrassing fashion
To me, you don't keep rolling it back like Dubas has with changing around the deck cahirs on the 3rd and 4th lines, you lok at the core and realize the team isn't built properly for playoff success

Regaulr season success and just making the playoffs should have been the bar 3-4 years ago. Without one single round having being won, staying the course is the problem, not the solution in my mind.

Has anyone heard a reason as to why Schenn didn’t play last night? Along with starting Samsonov when he obviously has his mibd elsewhere, it was among the few perplexing coaching decisions.
