Good to see Acciari stand in there with Martin. Poor showing in the fight, but he stepped out of his weight class to go out with some push back.

Lots of bad plays and bounces tonight. The one that stung the most was the Liljegren whiff. After that one went in things kind of got out of hand. Liljegren did good to bump the Islander player off the puck before giving it back to him. A deflating play.

Acciari didn't stand there with Martin. Martin let him live
Martin wanted to get a point across. Isles wanted to get a point across, thats why Martin was out when Acciari was out with 3 minutes to go
That's what teams do

If Martin wanted he could have killed Aciari. Good for him to let up

Thank God we sat Schenn eh?

I don't think that would have done anything to be honest. Martin/Isles wanted Acciari
Matt Martin fought Chara like 3-4 times. Schenn wouldn't have deterred him

But Schenn needed to be dressed last game. That's the kind of game we brought him in for.
Really dont' know waht Keefe is thinking sometimes. He overcoaches. Thinking maybe if we go with a lot of skill, we can throw away Isles game

Schenn could have stepped in, Martin went after someone below his weight class.

Team needs Schenn on the back end, even if you give up quality minutes from better defenders. They need a sheriff or else they just get clowned. They got clowned on hard last night, completely embarrassed.

As always it’s not the fact that they lost, all teams lose at times. It’s how they lost that people don’t like.

but these types of loses happen to everyone Tampa since the all-star break lost 7-1 to Florida, 7-3 to Pittsburgh and 6-0 to Carolina so not really sure why people get upset at these loses. they happen.

Acciari took a fight he didnt have to. Could have easily went with Cizikas or Clutterbuck instead.

Acciari doesnt have any business fighting Martin, and Martin knows that, so he took it easy on him

I agree Martin went below his weight class. Thats why Martin didn't kill him
It was good it was Martin. One of the good guys in the league

Acciari was going to answer to one of the Isles, if it was someone like Mayfield, maybe he doens't light up like Martin did

We have an answer for Martin in Schenn. We don't have any answers for Mayfield. I am glad it was Martin not Mayfield

I don't get this. If they don't go anywhere in the playoffs again, that's what 5 straight years? And you like that trajectory?
When Shanahan came in he said he wants the Leafs to competitive year-in year-out, and that's what they've done.

At the time, they hadn't even made the playoffs for long stretches of time. Now they routinely make the playoffs and are one of the better regular-season teams in the league on a consistent basis.

They still haven't figured out how to win in the playoffs, but they have built a good foundation to work with. If they stay the course and continue what they're doing, playoff success will surely follow.

They just need to stick with it.

There are no shortcuts.

You are not going to win with sub-par goaltending

Look at the teams we lost to. With the exception of Washington, we lost to great goaltending
Rask, Price, Korpisalo and Vasi

You need a tier 1 goalie

It is a regular season game for us and a playoff game for Isles .. bottom line .. da reason Keefer played Sammy was as old school as old school gets .. he knows Sammy's history to a tee .. he wanted to give Sammy 1 playoff type road game and Murray another playoff type road game (now that is Florida) .. only reason Sammy got 1st game start was of impending baby .. don't overread anything more than that .. it is as simple as it gets with Keefer .. Keefer has been playing pressure hockey on da tracks in Brampton since he was 6 (much like Shanny) .. it was a test very simple .. and he learned what Caps learned over da years .. Sammy is more athletic and has more skills than either Freddy or Soup but he is a mental midget and he always will be (Dubie thought he would change with age) .. nothing has changed

Also playing without your #1 D is gonna affect any team and missing brodie hurts this team big time .. Rielly and Lily can't handle it .. but at some point soon Keefer needs to figure out his 6 guys and start playing them together so they can get in sync .. if we lose Brodie then you can pretty much sink this team now

Up front nothing coming together until ROR returns .. bottom line team will go as far as ROR carries it .. Matty and Mitch can't do it .. Willy can and he will need to help ROR on another line .. although I think Mitchy will help out a little more this year (not much more but every little bit helps) .. Matty and Mitchy just don't have that 20% extra speed and grit which happens in playoff hockey (skill alone doesn't do it) .. other main issue which needs to occur is JT needs to play LW every game in so he can master da wall .. he never could handle playoff hockey strictly due to speed and it is getting worse for him as he ages .. Keefer JT pick it up as you think on da fly (don't make that mistake) ..

Other bit of good news is Tampa's core still thinks they can outskill our skill which means it won't be a total game of lockdown against them .. there will be chances and it will comes down to Vasi v Murray and each team D cores .. matchups against Carolina and Boston likely are gonna be too much for this group to beat .. I am personally hoping Rangers win Metro as I think we got best chance to play a Tampa like series against them if we manage to fluke past Bruins .. Freddy will screw it up for Canes unfortunately

One of the big 4 core guys will have to be moved. They are the biggest reason why Dubas has to dumpster dive for goaltending, and why we couldn’t be in on a Timo Meier and have to use Jarnkrok in the top 6.

If there fans are happy with those losses, good for them. They also have championship memories to fall back on.
I'm guessing their fans weren't happy with those losses though but I guess like here, so may be delighted.

If you're happy with losses that's certainly your right as a fan to feel however you like.
Many others after year after year after year after year of disappointment find it a little concerning the disinterest shown by the team so close to the playoffs.

I'm certainly not upset, I've grown use to the disappointment.

f***ing THANK YOU

I've been saying this for 2 years, but it's more important than ever. JT should not be playing C anymore. He looks awful out there. His best 2 games of the year were both on the wing.

Also, McMann is no longer the best player to ever play and not register a point. Congrats to him for getting his first NHL point!

Who would be this goalie they could have gotten?
If one of the 4 was moved Jarnkrok would still be in the top 6.
Wouldn't replacing one of the 4 with Meier pretty much be the same thing?

William Nylander could have been developed as C. Can probably still handle the role as well. He won't though, that's just far too galaxy brain for this spaceball management group.

I get the frustration, but its interesting how a loss like this fuels the blatant agenda pushing.

We gave up on a game late in the third where we shot ourselves in the foot. Some of the better players on the team made critical unforced errors and our G was off. Kampf/ZAR blow an easy exit, Lilj makes a few basic mistakes and Marner throws a grenade up the middle when were pressing. Thats game right there when we didnt convert on earlier chances.

It'll be an interesting summer here if every hope or expectation isn't met in playoffs

Regardless, if they can’t get it done what’s the point of going back to them? This whole thing of moving pieces around them has not worked, why do you think it will work now all of a sudden?

Agreed.

They dont grow on trees.

Thats part of the work that remains to be done, and there's still a lot to do.

I wasn't suggesting something shouldn't have been done. I was genuinely curious about the Goalie, that's a huge missing piece IMO.
IMO, the two to move to really open up some cap space and allow for some big changes can't be because on NMC.
I don't trust Dubas enough to handle moving Marner, Matthews or Nylander
