Their older players are actually really good and playing about 8 or 10 years younger than they actually are.

Bergeron is one of those guys like Pavelski that doesn't age.
I’m sure it’s all in the avocados. Everyone can maintain a best in thr league game in their late 30s. That’s so believable.

I think the other worrying thing is that this stretch has coincided with the schedule getting tougher. Only 5 of their 22 wins have come against teams currently in playoff position. Only 1 (the ot win vs Toronto) against a team currently in the top 3 of their division. Obviously you are going to have less wins vs those type teams and more against bad teams, but you do need to get some results against those type teams if you are in a playoff race.

I'm really sick of hearing that our expectations were unreasonable after the streak. They were not. Everyone here was prepared to lose some games, everyone was prepared for a slump.

No one was ready for the team to take a shit for an entire month, nor should they have been.

I don't understand how expecting .500 hockey was expecting too much. It's absurd.

This is incredible, they literally tied an NHL record for reaching some number of points (or wins?) in the least amount of games, and it was like 25 games into the season. It's impossible to overstate how utterly ridiculous this season has been.

And it wasn't like you could point to shooting percentages or save percentages that would come back down to earth, the advanced stats said we were the best team in the league, and now this. Why? Why couldn't we just suck like every other year and get a franchise player at the end of it?

This is incorrect. The Devils had the third-best PDO in the league over their winning streak with a 1040 PDO 5v5. They were getting 60% of the xG and 70% of the goals. Wishing to suck is so f***ing pathetic I just can't even imagine how that feels.

Like, we have to be approaching the most abrupt collapse in league history, in terms of shift in point percentage or something.

I doubt it and who gives a shit if they are.

Can someone please tell this f***ing team to take shots when they have space in the slot, or in the dots........ particularly when they're on a rush play, and coming in with speed. That's the best time to get a goalie.

Not wait for the dipsy pass to a guy who is even further wide off the angle than the guy originally with the puck.

(checked the replay, it was the Mercer/Sharangovich line that took the shitty line change too, unfortunately). They all scurried off and Rango didn't get the puck past the Bruins guy at the center ice line and Bergeron's line just had ton of space going the other way.

I mean put it this way...they're 28-4-3 with a history of being a 100+ point playoff team, if they're not for real than nobody is.
4 future hall of famers skating there in Bergeron, Marchand, Hall and Pasta. Good complimentary pieces, Krecji has won a cup with them and is a top notch player, Debrusk has figured it out: Smith, Foligno, Coyle, have size and experience and can play the game. Defense is very sound and balanced, D by committee and McAvoy is sort of off the spot, they aren't depending on him. Goaltending has been superb. Hard not to see them as a contender for the cup at this point. Only 4 regulations losses all year, I mean . . .

They are well coached and playing with all the confidence in the world. They give you very little and are very dangerous themselves.

They've got some age to be sure. Some of the top guys have a history of injury - Bergeron and Hall have been healthier this year than in several prior seasons.

Too bad we couldn't at least get to OT once we tied it up. I mean that was tough coming back in the 3d and was a real character builder. Until we then coughed it back up which may have been even more deflating. How do we get out of this death spiral? Our confidence has to be about as low as it was high last month and there's plenty of season to go. Stay tuned I guess. But watching has become a bit painful.

Pens blew a 4 goal lead and lost in OT to Detroit tonight.
That’s why we need a win Friday.

They look like they’ve cooled down.

They were neck and neck with Carolina for the division lead, before losing both games against them.

The only thing saving this dumpster fire right now, in addition to this team getting their act together, is pens/car/rangers/wash somehow cooling.

There is no other way. We actually need both. We need wins and we need them to stop playing like we during the streak.

Maybe they were as happy as some of the fans are about almost always 'winning the scoring chances game'
I'm not sure they were happy, but when you play well and lose, it has to be more encouraging than getting destroyed as they were last year.

It’s not. It’s just that winning streak aside, NJ is still a team building itself up. They have a good enough defense and one ok goalie and a promising young one who needs some more fermentation. They have three sure thing top sox guys and a few complentarybdeoth players but it isn’t enough and it wasn’t enough even when they were winning. It’s just my opinion but any team playing Haula on the first line and Tatar and Zetterlund on the matchup line is going to have its struggles. Add in Blackwood and it’s not surpsoing to me. Palat returning will help but even then he isn’t enough.

Did anyone catch tonight’s Keith Yandle dumb comment of the night? It’s the dumbest one yet.

He was over there implying that Lindy Ruff was the one who decided to bring in Andrew Brunette.

Yes, I’m sure Lindy Ruff on a very hot seat wanted to go out and get the guy that is the most dangerous in taking his job.

no it’s just venting on an internet message board after watching our team shit the bed all month after showing a ton of promise.

maybe they’ll turn it around and be fine but they don’t look like a good hockey team. they look like a team that can control the play for long stretches and take a lot of shots, some of them of the high danger variety, but not finish. and let in more goals than they can score every night whether the opponents goals are hard earned or not.

if there’s one thing i can say about the last few years, it that the devils made scoring a goal look SO hard, like they had to fight and fight and fight to put the puck in the net. but the opponents make it look so easy! that’s the hockey we’ve been playing
Yeah all this crap about people 'wanting to be right' about this team is a bunch of horse manure. Yes you have your drive-by negative posters, but the majority of so-called doomerism is from people that are sick and tired of losing, watching lotto balls in the Spring, and would rather not be negative about this team. Perhaps the sports teams I root for (Mets, Jets, Devils) don't help me in this regard, but on the other hand I have too much experience with collapses and fading off good starts and because of it, recognize the signs of when shit starts to hit the fan quicker than maybe some other people here.

Jesus H Christ some of the takes in here acting like we got whipped 7-1 tonight. Just terrible.
No but, we're losing a shit ton of games and falling in the standings. I'd expect to see reactions like this. Not that I agree 100% with the we still suck and aren't making the playoffs crowd.
