Would love him as the 3C here in NJ.

What is he likely to command as a UFA?

Right now he's at $3.64m and I expect him to get into the mid $5m range. He does a lot so he should have a few bidders.

I should note that he's listed as a C but actually plays very little, if any, centre.

I think he might get a bit more then some expect due to his excellent two way play your paying for and not just his offensive numbers.

That's one of the reasons I want him in NJ so badly.

Really? is he not as effective as a C?

Is he just as effective when playing C regularly, though?

If so, would love for the Canucks to move on from Horvat and replace him with Copp. Not the same type of player but we need a Copp type more.

He's just been playing with Lowry so much as a pair and Lowry is the C on that line. I don't know how effective he'd be as an everyday 3C because we never see it.

He's play far more wing then center of his career in Wpg, not to say he isn't effective at center......but he couldn't beat out any of our top 9 centers. He's fine at center, but he isn't a 60 pt center either.

Does he just take face-offs then switch to the wing? He's taken 550 this season which is 4th on the team, so he's at least starting a lot of shifts there.

He plays all roles, wing & center (far more wing), PP & PK.........

Last 2 games he was over 60% at the face off dot…… kills penalties and is excellent shutting down opposition best players.

Yes he's good at spot duty but I don't really know how he'd handle a full time centre role. I'm not saying he can't do it but we haven't seen it so it might be a bit of a risk to put him in as a definite centre when he hasn't played that for most of his career.

Still holding out slim hope Jets sign him long term. He is one of their few forwards that understands how to defend. Of course, they still have to sign Dubois and make a decision on Scheifele.

This is likely due to the org’s stubbornness in set roles. Lowry is the 3C, nothing will change that, he was selected to be shutdown line centre and he’s paid for it. Coop isn’t beating out PLD or Scheifele for top-6 C duties, since their roles are absolutely established, too. This is an indictment on how our team is built, not on Copp himself.

Copp gets $5.5M to play Swiss Army knife, it won’t be from the Jets.

I would think trading a 1st round pick should get you a machete not a Swiss Army Knife?

The Jets brilliant coaching staff like to deploy him on wing and not take proper advantage of our centre depth. They plan Stastny on the wing, too. For whatever reason, they’re married to Lowry at 3C… which is too bad because he’s clearly a #4
