I agree you can't keep them all, but would rather have seen him get a legit opportunity here to show his potential before deciding to move on from him. I believe he can be a legit NHL player, he's still developing, but unfortunately, he wasn't given a chance to prove it with the Rangers.
I hear you...but would you rather they moved Robertson or Jones instead?

Someone posted Yanni Gourde's stats and they're eerily similar to Copp's the last 2-3 seasons playing on a better team. Plus Copp is younger. Could Copp be that Yanni Gourde trade we've wanted and Strome's replacement?

I think a lot of the appeal of Gourde was tied directly to the possibility of Seattle retaining salary on his contract. Copp could be a great player for us, but if we have to pay him like a great player then he's probably hurting this team more than helping it at this point.

I like this deal only if there's a NYR contract at the end of the rainbow. Otherwise, don't love it.

From The Athletic:

"Now, is Copp a rental? Almost certainly. We’ve heard for weeks that he’s ready to maximize his earnings, which was part of the reason Winnipeg had to move him in the first place. That’s great for him, and it’s a problem for the Rangers in the summer, not now."

or he just didn't want to be in Winnipeg... like his buddy Trouba

I'm hoping they can lock him up at $4.5MAAV

I really wanted Barron to do well but Gallant has not liked or trusted him since TC. And with how he played in shorts bursts this year, I don't exactly blame him.

I'm going to assume some random ass reporter from the Athletic will have a seat at the negotiation table.

I think him not resigning is a very real possibility. I just can't see Drury agreeing to pay the guy > 5 million after he balked at Buch for just slightly more than that. We'll see I guess

Hoping Blais' return will mitigate the loss a little but losing Barron and a two 2nds for 20 games of Copp will unquestionable suck... hard.

I think it depends on if Copp gets signed in place of Strome, but who knows.

Will it really? These are late 2d rounders so what's the percentage of players picked in that tier who go on to have an NHL career? And how many of them max out as journeyman and waiver wire warriors? The biggest loss will be Barron who we know can at least survive as a 4th liner in the NHL. You don't want to lose your firsts but your 2ds are a crapshoot and not worth too much angst.
