Whether they do or not is not my point. It's that its in the deal to begin with. I'm in the minority on this, I know. Just my view. It is what it is; Copp has played well; I'm glad. Now, move on to the rest of the season, however long it lasts, whatever happens.
Do you like the deal better if we re-sign Copp? Because that seems like a very likely scenario.

I'm with you in the sense that I think people are underselling that we did give up quite a bit.

I like the deadline if for no other reason than we exercised restraint it keeping our biggest assets that we can use to go young center shopping this offseason. But at the same time, there's a non zero chance that one of those seconds becomes a first, which is one of our biggest assets.

And we really emptied the middle-round chest of assets we had. I hope we're not planning to need to rent next season.

Bc he is what 23 or 24 and cant crack an nhl roster. Also not the fastest skater. He will be a 4th liner that maybe can play a little third line once in a while, if he even sticks at all in the nhl which is no sure bet.

Certainly nothing that is irreplaceable. While i would like to have kept him to see if he can develop. I will not miss him and have no problem in him being the prospect included in this trade.
I'm going to guess the don't think he'll bbbe a full-ime 13th.

What can you possibly be basing that on?

Drury targeted him in the Buch trade. He played well before getting hurt. He will absolutely get a QO from us.
He's spent the vast majority of his last few years injured... better question onwhat are you basing the idea he will be qualified? 14 games doesn't qualify for anything.

I like Blais and they got him for a reason but a lot has changed since his injury. With every penny needed I don't think its a guarantee he's back next year

Gotta disagree w Blais presumptions above,
I feel quite certain he does get re-signed.
Contenders need depth. Next year, it'll be 3 different guys up front who miss most of Feb and March.

Re Copp (ie this thread) the decisions are harder, more dollars, more term. And, aside from FOs we haven't seen him as an upside C, in blue, yet

They could for under 1M, a raise, nope, nowhere.. if Drury wants him THAT bad, like 900K for 2 years. Cuylle can play maybe some time next year... nearly identical, better mobility.

Let's stop grasping at straws... that was the worst trrade since McDonagh/Miller (I know, technically two trades, both awful). "But we got Lundkvist.." yes...yes, we did..

He may or he may not. Vatrano, Copp, and Motte could all be resigned depending on what happens the next few months, or at least 2 of the 3. Blais may be the odd man out. We will see. A lot of decisions to be made this off season.

Assuming a Kakko 2 year bridge & Copp comes in at 5m AAV, they probably have the space to bring back 3 of Chytil, Motte, Blais, Vatrano, with Vatrano being the most difficult to fit because he makes 2.5 now and im sure will want a raise. Chytil probably safe unless they use him in a package for another C.

Already clearly has chemistry with bread. Cannot wait to see him around Kakko too. Oh, and can't wait to see this guy in the playoffs.

Give him the Strome dollars, package Chytil up. We'll figure the rest out.

Great deal and he just fits so well on this team.

The trade being bad should have nothing to do with resigning Blais or not. Blais is a decent player who could certainly help this team in the bottom 6. It's going to come down to money. What are we going to sign Kakko for? Assuming Strome and Geo walk and hopefully Nemeth gets traded what does that leave for a backup goalie and Blais, Copp, Motte, and/or Vatrano? What do they do at 2c? Again, a ton of questions to be answered this off season.

Agreed, that's why it was a new line. He was decent, all 4 assists and a few good hits... There sure NUMBERS GAME, and its 14... This happened all the time, highly drafted guys don't just get their QOs regardless of anything... Think McIlrath, Christensen - all I can think of, not being the most knowledgeable, but guys that are just barely good enough to play in the NHL and they hope they can be better. They let those guys go past the qualifying date and they just sign them unrestricted, that's how it works. And some of them improve a lot. So, with him, the only numbers game is how much they are willing to potentially waste. No team will do that for over one million.

EDIT - maybe Pouliot too, I think and Chris Higgins?

Drury isn't giving up on Blais this soon

What's to give up on?

Not like he has some well of untapped potential.

The question is, who is better for the money between him, Motte, and Vatrano.

Copp is clearly better and Chytil clearly has more upside.

You are underselling his value to a team. Blais is a solid NHLer. He played 2nd/3rd line minutes with St. Louis during their cup run. I could see him putting up 25-30 points if he can stay healthy and he brings physicality. There will absolutely be a team interested in him if we are not.

He's about to be 26 and has a career high of 15 points. For whatever reason, he's never been able to establish himself as a quality third liner, let alone a quality second liner. He has exactly 8 career playoff games with more than 13 minutes time on ice. He has exactly 4 playoff games with more than 14 minutes time on ice. His playoff Corsi is poor in both 19-20 and 20-21. It was solid all the way back in 18-19.

His ppg this year was 0.29 before he was injured. Our third line, now that we have a decent third line, averages 0.33 ppg, 0.40 ppg, and 0.68 ppg. Our fourth line averages 0.25 ppg, 0.31 ppg, and 0.13 ppg (the last one being Brodzinski).

Blais is a plus fourth liner, and a middle of the road (if not low-end) third liner. Always has been and likely always will be.

I certainly wouldn't put him on our third line over anyone on it now and it's only getting worse in comparison for Blais when Kakko returns.

I think you are overselling his value to a team because Chris Drury traded Pavel Buchnevich for him.

I'd say both but Motte is a better Rooney thus far, who should play RW not C

See that's what he DID. To NYR, he made us smile for 5 minutes.

Blais is definitely worth his QO, and I don't think he is especially injury prone. He had two severe injuries, a wrist injury and now the torn ACL, I see no relation and would call that just unlucky.
