I will admit that Andersen has been the best Goalie they had since Ed Belfour and I don't think any of us will argue with that. However you can not deny his playoff struggles is something that goes back to his time with Anaheim and they have had better teams than Toronto prior to the 2016-17 season.
I agree Eddie was a very good reg season goalie but if memory serves me I think they also lost in 1st rounds with him. Felix Potvin was my fav he really was clutch and made huge saves when called upon and kept the boat afloat post season

I would say that Curtis Joseph and Potvin were both equally good for the Leafs in the playoffs before they had Ed Belfour. Like Potvin did taking Toronto to the 1993 and 1994 Western Conference Final, Joseph took Toronto to the 1999 and 2002 Eastern Conference Final.
Yes totally forgot Cujo he was brilliant for us and boy did he stand on his head for St. Louis that one play off run

In Belfour's three seasons in Toronto they made the playoffs two times in 2003 and 2004.

2003 Is when they lost in seven games to the Flyers.

2004 Is when they defeated the Senators in seven games. Remember he had three shutouts, a .954 SV% and an amazing GAA which I can not seem to find what the exact number was.

What is a bad goal?

I seen Bernier miss a shot from center ice, he was booed and the tv commentators gave him a very critical review, a week later one of the best goalies at that time whiffed on a Leaf center ice shot, little was said. That was the only center ice shot that I seen Bernier let in that year.

We hear that bad goalies cause the entire team to play differently, more tentatively, I wonder if a goalie has a bad d in front of him is his ability to concentrate on the now compromised, he instead has to worry about where everyone on the ice is in a 1 second moment in time.

Luongo let in 1 goal during the playoffs and Van. lost the game 1-0, to the fan that goal looked stoppable so he was considered a choker, a bad goalie by many, he had faced around 30 shots in that game.
Toskala did same from further lol

If he wanted to return for the same money or less. He might return. Not likely. 25% chance?

I think for the front office, they'll want to see how he fairs in the season/playoffs (especially the playoffs) and then both sides will look at thr league financials/goalie msrket.

I think at the moment the Leafs may end up looking elsewhere, but its still a possibility he resigns. 20-25% chance probably a good guess

based on what exactly? in the series vs columbus he posted a 936 save percentage, and a 1.36 Gaa not good enough?

Not when he should have been posting a .970 and a sub 1 GAA based on the way the defense played.

Andersen's stats against Columbus were great. The problem was these types of goals he allowed against them.

My god both of those goals piss me off. The goal in game one isn’t good... but god why is it always the Leafs who give it up? You have to make that save in a 0-0 game.

The second one there is no excuse either. You have to play the shot on a two on one (it wasn’t even a two on one). You should have no holes from that angle. Just awful goaltending in pressure moments.

Simple. Need to ditch him in order to re-sign Hyman, Barabanov, and Lehtonen.

Campbell/Woll next season.

Woll and Scott after that.

The opportunity to trade him was after much of his salary was paid and he had just $1m remaining for this season. For teams trying to reach the cap floor while not able to afford much in real dollars, he would have been appealing, especially with the current financial climate. I hate seeing assets walk for nothing (JVR, Bozak, Komarov, etc).

This place forgets the horrid times the leafs went through went Andersen got injured. There's a reason why we smashed through 4? backup goalies over last season. The team hasnt supported their goalies and will be exposed when they try to move on from Andersen.

I don't know how things are going to shake up in the expansion draft but if the leafs sign Andersen for 5-6M im definately happy with that.

I think for the most part majority of fanbase really likes Fred as a person and he seems like a cool and humble guy. Soft spoken, just goes out and does his job. The problem is that his weakness is letting in ugly goals at bad times, especially in the playoffs. Every year so far.

I feel Andersen might do better on a team that has a very defensive system, like Dallas, and he doesn't have to be relied upon too much.

It's a shame because I felt the Leafs defense against Columbus was as good as ever, too bad their goalie outdueled ours.

When Andersen played in Anaheim did they not have a better defensive system?

Although just like we saw in 2019 when Toronto blew that 3-2 series lead against Boston in the Playoffs, in the 2015 Western Conference Finals when Andersen was the Ducks #1 Goalie they blew a 3-2 series lead against Chicago.

They will need his allocated cap to sign their own FAs. Leafs are probably hoping Campbell has a great season so they can give him #1 spot next year while making only 1.65M

Just not true. Both Campbell and McElhinney were absolutely solid when given a good number of games. We didn't "smash through" these two. One was pissed away by a green GM and the other is still here and I say up to the challenge.
