Aiming for a new position within the company that would lead to a pretty big life change. Already did 2 interviews and felt they went well, most of the team is rooting for me to get the position. Now I'm in that anxious time frame where I'm waiting for an offer or a No. Buh.

Doesn't help that if I get the job I'd be moving to the Netherlands so if I am I want to get started on the giant list of things that brings about.

Holy smokes that's a huge change. But I hear wonderful things about living there. Good luck, brother! I hope you get it!

Any model kit builders? Decided to dabble in armor after the hobby was a topic in another forum. I have been building a Panzer. Coming along well for a novice. Have more kits lined up but this will be my Frankenstein's Monster kit where I test techniques and painting options.

My end goal is to gain enough experience with painting to move on to a Revell Spitfire. I have the Iron Maiden Aces High edition.

I painted a pretty cool 70 Chevelle when I was in high school. A few weeks later I went to the hobby store to get another model, and left with an RC Truck. I quickly discovered the hobby of RC cars is an absolute moneypit, my venture with RC probably lasted a year. That was probably 15+ years ago, and I've been looking in to RC cars again lately but between my existing money pits (Corvette and PC) I don't know if I can justify the whole RC thing.

Well shit, I haven't had a single ad on HF since the migration, until just now... A simple refresh and I've got the top and bottom video ads going full force. I thought I was the chosen one...

Detroit pizza - I've eaten more of it than anyone reading this thread (would eat pizza near daily). Grew up on Cloverleaf pizza, but would also venture down the mile roads to eat Mr. C's, Agostini and the original Buscemi out in the Mt Clemens area. The last one was rarely beyond good. Mr. C's was OK and Agostini (for you Gratiot cruises) had the $1 pizza (more than that when most reading that were younger, including me, but Lou was well known). I give him top marks... for a real pizza... no squares there). If you are from East Detroit, you know Cloverleaf. Chicago... doughy garbage. Come on, ever have Uno... I mean the original? I have. Forget the mecca of Cloverleaf, forget Agostino, that just ins't fair. Take a bad square from the end of the night at Mr. C's or a center piece from Buscemi and it's a fair fight.

That said, the pizza of Naples, is the bomb. I'll always love Detroit style but once you eat there, everything else is #2.

Cloverleaf in SCS. Not freakin bad. I really ought to know more of East Detroit/Eastpointe/SCS as that's where my family essentially is from (9-10 mile)

Assuming we don't care about how our gaming setups looks like to others or the social media world (perhaps our haters who don't even know they're haters), wouldn't the VR Goggles setup be better than this?

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous:laugh: Talk about total overkill, I guess when you have the money to do ridiculous things with no remorse then have fun lol

On the topic of overkill this is what I'm working with, it was a moneypit initially but I don't think I've added/upgraded anything in nearly a year aside from a water pump that quit on me hence the long hose hanging out of the PC. The old pump was mounted, I had to add an extension on to the hose to get it to fit the cheapo replacement I bought. It was a lot prettier when first assembled, but things get janky over time.

And a fun tip, if anyone has any liquid cooling on their PC and you don't mind going through the hassle of opening up the cooling loop, add some royal purple ice in there. It dropped my temps by quite a bit and I was able to turn my fans down to nearly silent.

Damn, that's nice lighting. Excellent setup.

How do you enjoy the ultra wide monitor? I've been eyeing one that's way too expensive but ya know... The allure of OLED. I'm just not sure how I'll find ultra wide versus a more traditional 16:9 for video content and games.

For anyone in to gaming the ultra wide is pretty awesome, you get quite a bit more screen and it really does help. There have been countless times on Fortnite when I've been spectating a friend and I'm like DUDE THERES A PERSON TO YOUR RIGHT, LOOK TO YOUR RIGHT, DUDE TURN TO THE RIGHT I PROMISE THEY ARE THERE! It's a decent advantage tbh, I see way more then they do. If you go ultra wide, curved is the only way to go imo. Compared to a flat panel it really is pretty immersive, and the I found the curved ultra wide to be more immersive then my old curved 16:9. In Fortnite competitive modes (arena and tournaments) it cuts off the edges of the screen and makes you play 16:9 so there isn't any advantage. I'm not sure if anything you play would do the same thing, but besides that it's highly recommended. For video content it can be sort of useless because you don't get to use the whole screen depending on aspect ratio of the video, but for gaming it's awesome. I do wish I bought a higher quality panel, the colors and brightness aren't the best on mine, but I still get 144hz and a 3ms response time so aside from not being the most bright and vibrant panel ever, it still works great for gaming.

Well, you've sold me. Everyone says it's immersive as hell and I want in on that.

I wasn't sure, but now that OJ's weighed in, I'm pretty confident in saying Will Smith was out of line.

Any of you guys have kids that are graduating or have recently graduated from high school?

I wrote a recommendation letter for my friend's straight A's kid, and he got wait listed at my alma mater. I find it very strange, I though he'd get in without a problem. I'm doing research now (seems a little late at this point) but it appears college acceptance rates are at an all time low due to the number of applicants.

Is it that much tougher to get into college now? I remember getting accepted into U of M in November before I even applied to another school. (U of M had rolling admissions instead of doing the big batch process that most schools do. I wound up going to Cornell.)

Seems every day I feel older and more out of touch. Next thing you know they'll let Russians play in the NHL.

You answered your own question. Yes, it's harder.

Everything is harder for young people now. And I say that as someone that still technically qualifies as a millennial. It was harder for me than my folks and it's harder for kids now than it was for me. Sucks. I wish it wasn't that way.

And I should clarify that my folks grew up pretty poor and I'm a first generation college grad. Obviously they had a "harder" childhood than me. Mine was very comfortable. That's not what I meant. I'm specifically referencing the upward mobility they had and ability to pay for things like education, housing, and medical all by working routine jobs that didn't require specialized education and had reliable benefits and pensions.
