Man, everything about the DeShaun Watson situation is really twisted and discouraging.
Isn't it?
This is the guy that gets a record breaking $230 million guaranteed. Absolutely nuts.

Now I'm certainly not defending what Watson is alleged to have done. But it feels like the Lions, even after six plus DECADES of losing, still have no sense of urgency to deliver a winner. The NFL is filled with morally questionable individuals - look what Adrian Peterson was involved with, and he WAS on the Lions - but Detroit never jumps in with both feet to say, 'Dammit, enough is enough. We're doing whatever it takes to win the division, host a playoff game, and make a run at a Super Bowl.'
My point is that it's hypocritical to say that a backup running back can allegedly be a scumbag, and that's ok, but a top 5 QB has no place on the roster if he's allegedly a scumbag.Uh, yeah...
But hey maybe Detroit can talk Roethlisberger out of retirement.

Half the NFL are allegedly scumbags, and Detroit desperately needs talent across the board. Either build a winner or sell the team to somebody who will.
Ok, obviously 50 percent is an exaggeration to make a point. But when something like the following link is a simple Google search away, it's not like this is a league of choir boys:There's a lot to unpack here.
Half the NFL are not scumbags. I'm not sure why you want to exaggerate that so much. And almost none of them to the level of Watson.
Cleveland sold a piece of its soul to try to win football games. Because when I think of winning and model franchise, I think of the Cleveland Browns.

NFL player arrests database: Records since 2000 | USA TODAY Databases | USA TODAY NETWORK
These are arrests, charges and citations of NFL players for crimes more serious than common traffic violations. Almost all of the players belonged to an NFL roster at the time of the incident. In rare cases, a free agent is included only if that player later signs with an NFL team. The data...databases.usatoday.com
And I'm not saying that Detroit had to sign Watson at any price and no matter the consequences. I'm saying that Detroit, despite it's mind boggling duration of ineptitude, STILL would rather keep losing than reach outside their comfort zone of extremely low risk behavior.
As in, there's no evidence that they even picked up the phone to test the waters. Or are willing to roll the dice on anything if it means there's a significant risk involved.
A year from now, Watson will have Cleveland in the playoffs, the PR will have long blown over, and the Lions will continue to be a lousy franchise. Rinse and repeat.
A new study done by researchers from UT Dallas and Florida State University shows the arrest rate for the general population is nearly twice as high as that of NFL players.
The study looked at arrest data spanning a 14-year-period, from 2000-2013. Researchers aimed to investigate the perception that the NFL has a longstanding “huge crime problem,” and found that, by their metric, that notion is false. The total arrest rate for for the general population is significantly higher than that of players: for example, the total arrest rate for the general population was 4,889 arrests per 100,000 people in 2013; the total arrest rate for NFL players was 3,740.
Though NFL players had a higher arrest rate for violent crimes during six of the 14 years studied, it says the rate of violent crime arrests in the league has been flat in recent years.
What does table talk at Thanksgiving have to do with this? I want talent. Full stop. The Lions want to have their cake and eat it too, despite 65 years of that strategy not working. To greatly exaggerate the criminal records of a group that's about 70% black "to make a point"...
I'm just saying that's not the kind of chatter I usually associate with you. And I don't think that's what you were saying, at all, but keep in mind that's the kind of talk that my uncle with an agenda and negative bias throw out at Thanksgiving.
Re: "Google search away..."
It's been long proven that the NFL arrest rates aren't all that different than the general US population.
Study: NFL players arrested less often than general population

But hey, continue to berate your franchise for not making Watson the $230 million guaranteed golden boy. We all have our own personal lines for what we'll tolerate with our sports entertainment.
What does table talk at Thanksgiving have to do with this?
When people talk about "half of NFL players" being "scumbags and criminals" it often carries an ugly underbelly.
I don't think you're doing that, but you should be aware it's a thing. That's all I wanted to point out and why it's not a great look to exaggerate.
As for Watson, I think it would be insane to tie your franchise to him with hopes of turning it into a winner. We'll see, I suppose.
But BTW, Detroit did not care about Patricia's past. At all. So there's that.
Detroit should have cared about Patricia's past.

Hey man, you can go pretty far in life when you find something where you just want it more than everyone else. That latest thing for Detrioters... Pizza, haha.Hmm. The way they tallied it, it's not "best pizza city" and more "city that loves pizza that most." Which is a neat little factoid in it's own right. And you can't even quantity the "best" pizza anyway so who cares about all that.
Yay Detroit loves pizza and the pizza empire has brought us the Red Wings!
You paying royalties on that my man?Meanwhile, I'm out here in Chicago with my square steel pan just whipping out Detroit-style pizza and dazzling the locals.

I've never been a heavy smoker, but my dad was for 40+ years. He quit smoking by using nicotine patches, appearently those seems to work pretty good. Im a heavy snus user though, but i managet to cut down the use by leaving it home and chewing basic bubble gum. At first i allowed myself to have 2-3 pouches a day at the most, the first two weeks were the worst. And now if i need the urge to use snus, i stuff my mouth full of bubble gum. Leave the snus home when go out/work and fill you're pockets with bubble gum.Does anyone have any tips for quitting nicotine? I've never tried to quit before, and I use Siberia snus and go through a breeze pro every other day. I'm trying to ween off by only giving myself 3 medium puffs of the breeze an hour, but holy hell, I feel so sick and it's only day one. Nearly dripping sweat and having constant nausea. Regardless of how awful it is, im putting my foot down and quitting this shit. Feeling powerless over anything is an awful feeling.

Wether it's bubble gum or sunflower seeds I'm definitely going to need an outlet. Getting used to not having a snus in or inhaling smoke/vapor will probably be just as hard as quitting the nicotine addiction itself. I have a friend who really likes Cannadips, CBD pouches, I might order some and try them out. Patches though, yeah that could definitely help ween me off. Between the snus and vape I'm consuming over 300mg nicotine a day, that is not a cold turkey situation for me.I've never been a heavy smoker, but my dad was for 40+ years. Snus use did cut down mine smoking, i went years without smoking. Recently i had a good 2 year run without smoking but after Finland won the olympic gold, i had to smoke a good victory cigar.
My grandfather started smoking when he was 11-years old and smoked until the day he died at the age of 80. He never had any lung problems or anything smoking relared problems. I don't get it how some people can go live in their 80s-90s when they have smoked their entire lives, and some people die in their 40s in cancers.
I'm glad you mentioned the bolded, that has always been both my parents with cigarettes. Always talking about quitting, never making it happen. Setting aside the money I would usually spend on nicotine/tobacco products for a date with the girlfriend or something would be very rewarding. Its not easy. But it can be done. I used the nicotine gum to help me quit chewing tobacco. For me I had to just keep reminding myself how unhealthy of a habit it is. Keeping busy helps(trying to keep your mind off of feeling like your missing out) The longer you make it the easier it will get. Try not to trick yourself into thinking things like I just get 1 more can, I’ll quit next week, next month, or after I get this done. I did that for years. Always coming up with a excuse for still using nicotine.
Reward yourself for kicking the habit. Use the money you save not using it on something for yourself. Think of how it’s helping you to get healthier. It’s a good feeling when you don’t want the crap anymore, but it takes time. Get thru those first days, weeks it will get easier and easier. Good luck to ya.
*** Exercise helps too. Hike, bike, jog whatever your into.
There you go. Maybe keep a tally, and once you've saved X dollars, take her to a super fancy restaurant she's been wanting to check out (or one that she never figured she'd go to).Setting aside the money I would usually spend on nicotine/tobacco products for a date with the girlfriend or something would be very rewarding.
