And it all circles back, as the voice of the moth dude is the same as Archer: H. Jon Benjamin.

I think my favorite episode is the Broodwich.
Good catch. I'm pretty sure he voiced at least one other character on ATHF too, but can't recall for sure.

Broodwich is definitely near the top at least. Poor Shake getting tricked into planting those Azalea bushes!

You edited the thought away but another voice he did is one of the axe guys in the Broodwich dimension.

I'm a bit of a scholar on the early seasons.
Ha, was editing there..... yeah you're right, I just found it, he voiced "Mr Sticks" in the alternate dimension. I knew there was another.

I know all the ins and outs of the ATHF universe itself, but I'm not always so great with the voice actors :dunno:

Hey quick question.

If I'm offered a 20% pay cut to move from midwest US to middle EU, should I do it?

If enough of you guys say yes I'mma pull the trigger.

One of my big regrets is not taking a job overseas when I had the chance. Assuming there's not a detrimental impact to your family/social life, I think you should jump on it if you're at all tempted.

How's the CoL compare? That 20% pay cut may effectively be greater or less than 20%, obviously.

Either way, I'm with Bench, I'm a big proponent of spending time overseas if you have even a little interest in it.

Yes.

It sounds like you want to and are just looking for validation of your choice

What does Middle EU mean?

dis dude spies on me

CoL is the same but it's a complicated equation involving silly stuff like healthcare and taxes and pension

Have you traveled there before? I've only been for a few weeks back when I was a teenager for hockey, so I have almost no useful information other than I remember Vienna being gorgeous and the ratio of attractive women to a 16-year-old seemed unbelievable.

Perhaps the latter influenced my high opinion throughout.

Gotcha.

I spent a little time in Salzburg several years back. Loved it there.

Indeed. It's not completely out of the blue, I have connections and am familiar with it. Just never lived outside US.
I grew up close to Austria (I'm Bavarian). Listened to a lot of EAV in my youth lol
Honestly no idea what that is.

Bavaria is fkn sweet tho

I guess that depends what you’re making now. Also what expenses will the job cover? Lodging? Car? And how much of your budget do those items take up?

Also consider the tax implications. Because the money is earned overseas will you be paying taxes on it in the country you live in? The country you’re moving to? Or is the income you earn overseas considered untaxable?

Cool but now you got me curious where this came from. Is part of my profile an accidental reference to it?
No, it's just that Austria is almost literally the middle of the EU.

Just geography. I don't think you've doxxed yourself or anything.

Ah gotcha.

I do listen to STS from time to time.

Have you been surfing in the Englischer Garten?

If they are an American citizen they will pay tax in America as well as abroad. Now the amount they pay abroad will offset some/all of the American tax they owe.

No, it doesn't make financial sense, but to be fair, I don't know the salary. Like if you were making 100k and 20% took you down to 80k, you'd still be set pretty well and if you value the experience enough, it'll be good.

I moved back to Michigan from Cincinnati and took at least a 15k paycut to do so. But it was home, so that weighed in heavily.

Well it definitely doesn't help me financially. I'm just trying to figure out if the other aspects outweigh how much it hurts. Which is probably impossible to really know until I'm like a year into it.

That is why I said probably! At those ranges they would be paying twice as much tax in Austira than they are paying in the U.S. So the pay cut would be even more. Not sure if that was factored in.

People take pay cuts for different reasons. My wife took a 20% pay cut to get out of the stressful mgt role.

For sure. That is something that we can't help you with. It really depends on where you are in life, what are your goals, will you be happy that far away from family, is the work rewarding, etc. If I were young and single I'd probably do it.

I'm doing something similar right now (flying out in 9 days!). Moving from Portland to the Netherlands. Taking a paycut as well but its an opportunity I didn't want to pass up for me or my family.

Just to add: I can share with you what I was offered for relocation and whatnot if you'd like.

Quick and dirty of the tax situation is if the country you're moving to has roughly equal tax rates to the US and you're making less than $250k annually you'll only have to file your taxes yearly but won't be paying anything.

Austria and most of the EU counts as roughly equal. US is mostly looking at low tax places like Singapore and Dubai.

Plus since you're living out of country you'll automatically have a filing extension applied so you don't have to worry about getting all your information together before April 15th.

*Anyone remember that scene from Apollo 13 where they declare the astronaut officially out of the US so he gets a filing extension?*
