If you don't mind me asking, what are some of the biggest aspects that you think make it worth the financial difference?
Ask away!
Bear with me while I get my thoughts on this in order but the main thing for me was once I figured out COL, tax concerns, and life style choices it pretty much equaled out that while I'd be making less total I'd have about the same spending money available to me at the end of the day.
How I came to that conclusion:
-COL between Portland and Eindhoven is slightly cheaper, it added up pretty quickly in savings though when I started looking at utilities.
-Due to public transport which my company will pay for traveling to and from work + plus NL biking culture I'll only have the need for 1 car which will save me a bunch in gas and maintenance fees.
-The time off! 27 days off +13 floating days off to start. I don't get that stateside. While its not a money saving thing, its a real thing to consider.
-Medical costs are way more controlled in the EU overall so I'm saving quite a bit there.
Heres the link to one of the cost of living calculators I used.
COL Compare between Beaverton, OR and Eindhoven, NL
Thought of some more, salaries are generally lower in the EU so even if its a 20% pay cut for you now it very well could be a good/great income in Austria. I checked reddit a lot to see what kind of income levels you could comfortably live off us.
Plus travel between countries can be suppper cheap. Skyscanner.com allows you to search for cheapest destinations from your local airport.
