I dont get why people rant about Ottawa here. They traded the player and sent out his paperwork. Im 100% sure that NTC was mentioned there in the documents, even if the actual list wasnt there. Thats it for Senators, its not their employee anymore, they are not supposed to trail back if he has all set up.

In a billion dollar business its mind boggling Vegas havent checked up the NTC. Id figure they have, and tried to use a loop hole. It backfired and rightfully so. If you see he has NTC, its within good spirit to check up his agent for the list if ”it has got lost with the earlier trade”. Its just either a scum bag or a really stupid move to try to ”whoops we didnt have it”.

the other one to blame, and even more so, is Dadonovs agent. You have one job for your client, its to make sure his paperworks are set up and followed through, and that you are treated accordingly. Agent never checked that Vegas has the NTC list? Fire him immediately and get someone who has your back.

I am referring to them asking Ottawa. I apologize if I misinterpreted that. But in these situations asking the player can often be detrimental.

Imagine you as a GM, you are casually throwing his name in conversation. You don't want to ask the player or his agent to clarify. That becomes a real messy dynamic if you aren't actually trading him.

And imagine how detrimental it becomes when you find out the player has a active NTC you didn't bother to confirm with the agent.

Just don't get people who think talking to the agent is a good idea. It only messes up the relationship with the player. They aren't there to help the team. They are there to help the player at any means necessary which makes them unreliable in this instance.

Yes, but they at least know if the player has a clause or two.

I imagine crossing paths with the management group will be a 'lil bit awkward for Dadonov. I do appreciate the extra drama LV creates this season, though. :snide:

Are any of you in business? Not every instance of non-aligned interests means people can't talk or work together! GMs and agents should absolutely have working relationships in which they can frankly discuss realities that affect both GMs and agents' clients.

Best way for a GM (maybe delegated to assistants) is to have meetings with every agent involved on a regular basis as a matter of policy. That way questions about contractual matters don't have to indicate intentions for upcoming decisions.

Like this doesn’t hurt at all?

Every team should know their every players lists whether they are going to get traded or not.
It’s your job to know& it doesn’t hurt their relationship

Even I know as a general manager, when I play in simulation leagues.

What?

A week after the trade, you have a random intern send the agent’s assistant an email saying that you were told no list was submitted and you want to verify that before you officially log it into your system now that the deal is completed.

The response is that it was submitted and some form of proof is provided.

You talk to the league and Ottawa about why your were misled and maybe Ottawa sends you a 6th round pick as part of the compensation or you get an apology from them.

Then you have the list and are able to make a legal trade at the deadline and aren’t left trying call shenanigans at the end of the year.

Ottawa may have misled Vegas, but Vegas also didn’t do an ounce of due diligence to confirm that after they had completed the deal.

I think the opposite is true.

At minimum, management needs a good working relationship with the agent when the player becomes eligible for a contract renewal. Building that relationship doesn't happen overnight.

At best, management should constantly collaborate with the player's agent on contract and business related matters, thereby taking that off the player's mind and leaving him free to concentrate on playing hockey.

Being a good manager is all about building relationships, and from the sounds of it your attitude would draw a very badly failing grade in that respect.

How simple is it.

Every player that has some sort of trade protection(outside of full no movement) you ask the list, as team policy. Nothing more, nothing less, no big deal.

It’s your job to know
