This is a ridiculously safe move for stl who was forced to act due to more compiling injuries at lhd.

Since Bouwemeister had to retire, the blues have experienced Scandella, Perunovich, Krug, and now Leddy missing giant chunks of time, often overlapping. There have been 2 different chunks of time the blues were down 3 lhd simultaneously. It also seems some of these guys played quite a bit while limited due to injury.

At 4mil cap hit now and with the potential of more retention, the Blues could recover their assets and move Fowler if they are out of contention at 2 different trade deadlines. They could actually move to get a sooner 2nd round pick than the 2027 they paid. For the blues, ideally that doesn’t happen and they’re fighting for a wildcard.

Yeah, theyre trying to compete. Doesn't mean that money couldnt have been used better else where.

Think you dropped your thinking cap.

Like where? Our defense was stretched thin and Leddy is behind schedule on his recovery. If we don't need Fowler he can be flipped at a later time.

Well that’s a pretty good milestone game. Probably wouldn’t have played one in Anaheim that’s for sure. Besides the stadium series game many moons ago.

For the assets they gave up and the cap hit of the player they received I would say it would be hard to spend that money better.

Just imagining John Kelly trying to pronounce this….damn we f***ed up

If Biakabutuka ever plays an NHL game, I'll be surprised. Shame though.

I thought JK was butchering Timothy Liljegren's name until I found out he actually wants it pronounced it that way. Maybe he's just trolling commentators by saying that.

Look for Faulk to be the next veteran victim, who’s lost a step, to end up somewhere else. Parayko is just gonna be too hard to move right now.
What makes moving Parayko difficult is you'd have to be so substandard at evaluating hockey players to even want to.

Gonna be tough. Blues fans and GM noticed already he's one of the best Blues players night over night for a period of 10 years. Plus he's on a great contract for a Canadian 4 Leaguer.

I’m really surprised they moved Fowler before game 1,000.

He requested a trade in the off season and they've been working to move him since, so we can assume he had long come to terms with potentially not getting to the milestone in Anaheim.

Now he can potentially play game #1000 on Wrigley Field, rather than a random road game in Winnipeg

Do you honestly think they didn’t try moving him last year? If there’s a contract that’s gonna turn into an anchor, it’s likely his. So unless they start showing signs they’ll compete over the next few years, they’ll move him, if they get the chance.

The Blues are pretty good about getting out in front of things. He’s 31. It only takes him losing a little foot speed and he’s toast for the next 5 years at $6.5m. Something that usually happens in your early 30s if you have size, and it happens quickly.

If it does, he’ll end up a real expensive buy out.
Tell me you have no idea what you're talking about without telling me you have no idea what you're talking about.

You have no idea what you're talking about

Yup, that could have returned enough young assets to jump start a retool. It may be understandable that they wouldn't throw in the towel one year after a playoff appearance, a common mistake (we're seeing it with a few teams now), but still a mistake.
Ana got a 2022 1st and seconds in 23 and 24 for Lindholm at the TDL.
Probably in a trade in 2019 or by July 1, 2020, you're swapping out a 2nd for a prospect/young player. Still think you'd get a 1st and 2nd. In 2019 or 2022, assuming that same #22 slot, nothing really stands out from 22-31 (end of rd 1). McMichael for Wash doing well this season. Thus, waiting 4 years for him. 2020, from 22 onwards, best right now are Neighbours of STL and Greig of Ott. Ana took Perreault at 27 ahead of Greig, though. So, who knows if they land one of them.

If Ana got someone taken from the 2015-2018 draft in a deal, that player in 2024 would be 24-27 of age. So, depending on their age, that player may not opt to sign with the team if there is more losing ahead.

I really like what the Blues have been up to for the past 6 months.
They have an uninspiring NHl roster, average prospect pool and a geriatric and expensive blueline. As a fan of a rival team, I also have really liked what they have been doing

Blues fans love seeing playoff choker fleury in the division as well, even if we've only only seen the benefit one time.

How long into retirement will it take for the wild to be relevant for the first time in history?
I’d recommend checking the current league standings. Worst part, is Minnesota has better talent at literally every position than STL too. And more youth. Ouch
