This is a ridiculously safe move for stl who was forced to act due to more compiling injuries at lhd.

Since Bouwemeister had to retire, the blues have experienced Scandella, Perunovich, Krug, and now Leddy missing giant chunks of time, often overlapping. There have been 2 different chunks of time the blues were down 3 lhd simultaneously. It also seems some of these guys played quite a bit while limited due to injury.

At 4mil cap hit now and with the potential of more retention, the Blues could recover their assets and move Fowler if they are out of contention at 2 different trade deadlines. They could actually move to get a sooner 2nd round pick than the 2027 they paid. For the blues, ideally that doesn’t happen and they’re fighting for a wildcard.
