He has a career high of 20 goals and 43 points. Pump the breaks.

In his second full season. Even the common metric of $100K/point makes the deal a discount now, let alone in 3 years.

Or maybe you think they gave him 6 because they think this is where he tops out?

Have to chuckle at the Ducks fans taking issue with my comments, too. You guys got a steal- the least you can do is admit it.

it in all likelyhood can turn out to be that, but 6 years is a LONG time for ANY player...a lot can happen...the good thing is its not a 5+ mil that could really hurt...so, you are somewhat right in what you are saying but, like all fans, we just hope he atleast stays what he is.

He's 23. 6 years takes him right through his prime. The risk is neglible.

It's especially strange since a lot of Ducks fans are seemingly just fine with Kesler's contract that takes him from 32 to 38 with NMC and everything.

I agree. Don't see much risk with him.

Well, it's a different situation. Rakell has already been a nice player for us, but Kesler has a good case for being the team's most important player last season. He was an impending UFA, with all the leverage - if you want to keep guys like that, you have to give. With Rakell being an RFA, you get to pick whether you do a short-term deal and "play it safe", or take some risk on a long-term contract. You don't get your pick with players in Kesler's situation.

That said, I'm still more than happy we went for the term on Rakell.
