Good deal. A bit more than I would have liked given the health issues Rakell has had recently, but I think Rakell, at his best, definitely is worth that contract.

This also probably means that either BM has given up on signing Lindholm or a Fowler/Despres/Stoner trade is on the horizon. It's probably Fowler out the door, but I can dream

I am fine with that Rakell contract just need him healthy and back to last year level of play when he was healthy.

Fowler for Mantha+Detroit's 2nd round pick, Get it done Holland and Murray.

Not trading Fowler for that.

does Etem get pushed back onto waivers?

Etem makes so little no reason for him to be put on waivers. He should be playing on the 4th line.

Absurdly good for the Ducks. Locked up right through his prime at an extremely reasonable cap hit.

Etem makes as little as just about anyone we have, so there's no reason to put him on waivers. We will have a little over 3.25 million once we send two guys down. Trading Fowler would give us about 7.25 in space. Signing Lindholm (5.75) and getting a guy on ELC (1mil) would cost around 6.75. we'd also send another player down, so we'd have about 1.5 in space. That's more than enough for when Thompson comes off LTIR.

I like this deal a lot of Anaheim. Honestly surprised he was willing to sign that low for that long. While I still don't think he'll become a #1C, he's going to be a very solid #2 imo and at 3.8M you really can't complain.

I love the deal, but would have preferred one after Lindholm was signed. I hope this helps on that front at least...

Damn, thats filthy!

Yeah. Kid has moves. Very creative player, too. I loved him on the 2nd PP unit last season. He ran that thing. Between him, and Lindholm at the point, they were helping get it done when the 1st unit got off the ice.

He needs to work on his defensive game, and his face offs, if he's going to be a center, but I'm very comfortable with him in a top six role on the wing right now.

Stoner and a 2nd for anything

I think 2nd round pick isn't enough.

First round pick or at least two second round picks should do it, though. Look what CHI had to pay to get rid of Bickell, FLA had to pay to get rid of Bolland, FLA had to pay to get rid of Savard (and money was covered by insurance).

As a NJD fan, I'd take Stoner but expect:
- first round pick or,
- 2 second round picks or,
- Teravainen-like prospect.

The other way to do it is to trade someone significantly more important cheaply (a'la Boychuk/Leddy/Spezza/Sharp).

This must mean a pretty important deal must be in the works.

Beautiful contract. I'd say he's worth $4.5M today, which he wouldn't get short term as a RFA, and long-term it has a lot of potential to be a major steal.

Seems like a great deal for the Ducks. Not so much for Rakell.

Another 40+ PT season or two and he would be looking at at least a million or two more.

Should have asked for a bridge deal.

He probably did ask, a lot of times. Ducks seemed to be pushing for the longer term, understandably. Not much leverage for the RFA to get the term he prefers.
