They had $3.4m in space.

Suppose they could send someone down to cover the 400K difference but that's TIIIIIGHT to the cap.

Who does this push out of ANA? I'm sure Ducks fans were hoping Lindholm would have been the first to sign

a young top 6 forward with under a 4 million dollar cap hit. i'm not surprised this took so long with the illness complication hopefully he can play soon

Going to be interesting to see if a move is in the works for Anaheim now, you'd have to think there is given the lack of room and Lindholm still unsigned.

Happy to get this one done, it's far from a bargain in 2016 - but in the next couple of years assuming Rakell continues his development is where this contracts should shine.

Is he worth that?

Certainly. He scored at a 23G-49pt pace last season (ended up with 20G-43pt in 72GP) and continued being a physical threat and responsible two-way forward. He's only 23 and his point totals and play have only continued to improve season-to-season, so there's no reason not to expect him to continue progressing as a player.

I'd say it's a slight overpayment for this season but at 3.8M for 5 seasons after that it's an absolute steal.

So do they assign some bodies to the A or are they getting ready to shed some money in a trade?

Good for them. Now the really interesting part begins, because they have to clear a lot of space to get Lindholm signed.

Similar to the Scheifele contract but smaller in scale. Not worth it today, but in a couple years it's a bargain.
