Makes sense given it seems like we're going to make a big play on Shattenkirk or Barrie. Pointless to have Gudbranson taking up a large amount of space on the 3rd pairing when Hakanpaa can come in there.

If we snag Barrie, our defence instantly becomes far better then if Gudbranson is in there given his ability to move the puck out of the backend.

If we really are making a push for Barrie and Shattenkirk, I think Shatty is a bigger possibility. He was close to signing here last year

i get that cap space is an issue, but they'll need to replace the toughness he brought to the blue line

hopefully hakanpaa can play that role
