That follow-up question seems like Portzline is unintentionally perpetuating the stereotype that no one wants to play for Columbus.
I would have to assume it's something discussed a lot in Columbus, not unlike it's discussed here. Good on him for asking a serious question. And good for the Jackets fans for the answer they got. I always thought Trouba only picked Anaheim because of his wife's career.

Trading Trouba, dumping Goodrow, and putting Kreider on the block are all justifiable. But the way it's all been handled, it has to have an effect on the locker room. A lot of NYR fans are trying to argue that Trouba was being a bad apple, but I don't think that is how the players on the team see it.
This article suggests there’s a lot more wrong over there:

The way the Rangers handled the Trouba situation seems to be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues over there. Everything we've heard from teammates regarding Trouba has been nothing but love for the guy. Even if trading Trouba was the right decision, the way it was handled has not been taken well from the players.

In my eyes, thats great news for our locker room. Guys liked him so much they are pissed off with the way the Rangers treated Trouba and now others as well.

Trouba was put in an impossible situation and he did the best he could to handle it.

Bitter WPG and NYR fans aside, I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Trouba as far as being a teammate goes. I don't think you get to be a 3 year captain of a veteran team like that without being extremely well liked.

Hot take. We end up resigning Trouba at a cap hit we all are happy with. He ends his career in Anaheim and we look back at this trade and are happy about it

Based on what I've read, it seems like this is Verbeek's hope/plan. Part of the decision to come to Anaheim was the prospect of an extension and staying long term. If he does re-sign and plays well throughout his tenure, this will end up as quite a good trade, value-wise, for Verbeek.

I can't believe you guys. No way he should be considered for an extension until his current contract expires.

I dont think hes an early extension candidate unless hes open to something extremely reasonable and if he plays well the rest of the year. And I dont think anyone is saying we just extend him no matter what. His start here has looked promising, and its one of few things people have to be happy about right now.

At the right price I’d be happy to resign him pending him still being good at the end of next season but I still kind of feel like he’s just going to sign in LA instead if we don’t start winning games

His wife is best friends with the wife of Ryan strome. Trouba is good friends with strome and vatrano himself. That matters, at his core he probably has some regret himself about his entire ordeal. I’m sure he will be happy to just be in a new place and his wife finding a new residency and just staying put. He’s our long term vet. Gudas seems to be done( let’s hope gudas has been playing hurt and rebounds next season) but gudas is a few years older than Trouba. Trouba is our man

If it was just a move to save money, and the team is no better, which is leading to a locker room issue, then trading Trouba/Krieder wasn't "justifiable". It's hard to see the NYR path forward right now, but if these moves were done ramshackle, then certainly not justified.

Trouba/Strome/Vatrano have won nothing. I have no idea if any of them will be on the ducks, next year or after. None of them are essential.

Vatrano should be traded at the deadline. The other guys should not get extensions at this point. WIth regard to Trouba, it is totally unclear what the ducks needs will be in 2 years.

I don’t care if he’d sign for league minimum. (Yes, slight hyperbole.) I want to see him finish his current contract before I’d extend him. Who knows what next year will look like for him and the rest of the team. There’s just no positive to signing him a year early. None.

Dude has been playing the body and blocking a ton of shots. That's all I could ask.
He’s also winning a lot of board battles, clearing the front of our net and seems to pinch well and get his shots through. I’m very happy with Trouba. You can tell he’s trying to keep it simple for now. Soon we will see those huge open ice hits he’s famous for

Not until his wife sets up her practice in OC.

He hits ‘em and she fixes ‘em. Nothing like keeping it all in in the family business.
