Because the Ducks care more about salary then cap since they have the most cap space in the league. He only makes 6 mil in cash.

They obviously felt like he was a player that would improve the roster, which isnt really a stretch.
This feels remarkably like when Gudas was signed and everyone said it was crazy.

Yeah, I think the idea that Trouba would come with an asset in any trade from the Rangers was a bit optimistic - if that was the case, he would have been waived before any such trade, and I think he would have been grabbed just like Goodrow. A little less than $5M for the remainder of this season and a bit more next year aren’t really that bad in the current market, even if he doesn’t bounce back somewhat.
