Considering they haven't dropped Thompson to LTIR yet means if this is "official" official, they are over the cap.

Anyone know what the penalties would be for this?

That said, if they drop thompson to LTIR they will have enough room to fit lindholm in.

Steal of a contract as well.

You forfeit games if you are over your allowed cap at puck drop. But since they don't play again until tomorrow night they have time to LTIR Thompson as well as the extra space they get from Despres. There is also time for players to clear waivers and trades to happen if needed.

Cap friendly has them with less than 9K In cap space there has to be another move

Despres LTIR - 3.7 M
Etem to farm or claimed by another team - 775 K

That already brings them to 4.4 M. Then you just need to find 1.2-1.5 M of room and they can send down 2 players to do so.

And as someone said Nate Thompson can be LTIR'd too at 1.6 M.

If Lindholm goes to San Diego for a conditioning stint would he still count against the cap and 23 player NHL roster limit?

Can people stop saying it is a steal of a deal?

Of course it is, they literally stole it. His options were either take the deal or sit out the entire year. The reason he held out for so long is cause he wanted a better deal.

I'm going to be the dumb one that asks the really stupid question here. How doesn't any team offer sheet him for $7,500,000. He's easily worth first, second and third-round picks from a good team that won't draft high.

NO trade boys. I knew with the Etem waive that it was sewed up. LTIR of Despres/Thompson sews this bad boy up.

Stoner to AHL frees any remaining space needed.

Wow Lindholm should fire his agent. Not a good deal for him.

Phenomenal deal for the Ducks though. Steal.

Great to have him signed, for what's going to be an awesome deal for a long time. Now let's see what we have coming up to keep the cap in check moving forward.

Yikes! Couldn't he have signed a contract like this months ago? What was the point of him holding out?

Of course, he could. He/Lemieux wanted to see whether Murray would cave or look comfortable letting the season roll along, I suppose. In the end, Murray didn't flinch and Lindholm probably got frustrated sitting at home without a paycheck and eventually felt the wait wasn't going to be worth it. Rather predictable outcome, but I can't really blame him for trying - there's not many tools an RFA has to force what he thinks is fair.

according to cap friendly they have 16K in cap space. that's without Lindholm signed....

They can go over by 3.7 for Despres, like 1.7 for Thompson and they'll send Stoner or someone to AHL..

The cap room is plentiful

Good teams don't have cap space and/or picks.

Despres might be on LTIR for now, But what if he gets cleared later and is alright. Then they might be screwed.

If he's starting to show signs of being close to returning, the Ducks will be the first to know and will have to work to free up space. Obviously they don't see that as an issue any time soon. I'm sure BM will continue to work on making a deal to save cap space, now he doesn't have to do it with a gun to his head.

First you have to physically own your own 1st, 2nd, 3rd. This cuts a lot of teams out.

You need the cap space, this cuts a lot out. And you cant go ahead and make cap space without doing the offer sheet first.

There may be a foolish GM or two who thinks he isn't worth the money. But the first 2 points would honestly cut out at least 25 of the teams instantly.

Why New Jersey doesn't offer sheet him, ask them. Carolina doesn't because they're stacked on D.

Ducks make out like bandits.

$1.4M over the cap assuming everyone on LTIR stays there. $3.3M in LTIR relief baked in there, but that will disappear.

How does this work?
