Honestly tho what are we getting for Strome? Unless we are getting a decent young asset what is the point? We aren't getting a first and a good young player for him. Most likely we are gonna just have to ride the season with him then let him go. Not the end of the world.
Sorry no. But let me extend courtesy to answer your fair ?.
First off this is Strome. It is not like Draistil. We already did our splurge when we extended Zib long term [followed by Fox, which was expected]. So flipping the question, what are we really keeping? Answer: an average overall, with some warts on skating/defense, but an offensive plus. But he is sucking minutes from those we are inevitably replacing him, whose extra mins IMO likely lead to acceptable level offense and better defense. I understand Barron is doing well on faceoffs; we should encourage that w/mo mins. And of course, we need to be ready to add Krav, both for his likely offensive punch, and also to once and for all accurately update his value. Once his value is built up, whether we keep or trade, ok, but it is beyond stupid if Drury is allowed to go in another direction, keep Strome, jettison Krav at unacceptably low value, and by keeping Strome, set in motion a likely scenario where Kakko/LaF etc get dealt and not from a position of strength by us.
Second, what are we getting? Ideally a late 1st which is increased w/retain, but could be something like a 3rd this yr and a 2nd next. I would not pooh-pooh this so quickly. Remember Schneider? We traded up to get him. We could do that b'c we had sufficient picks. Adding more picks, not subtracting, gives us a stronger hand. And third, if you don't like who is there and want another option, it is likely you can trade a pick this year for a better pick next year or later down the road.
So all of that is signif enuf to take my approach.
