Sorry no. But let me extend courtesy to answer your fair ?.
First off this is Strome. It is not like Draistil. We already did our splurge when we extended Zib long term [followed by Fox, which was expected]. So flipping the question, what are we really keeping? Answer: an average overall, with some warts on skating/defense, but an offensive plus. But he is sucking minutes from those we are inevitably replacing him, whose extra mins IMO likely lead to acceptable level offense and better defense. I understand Barron is doing well on faceoffs; we should encourage that w/mo mins. And of course, we need to be ready to add Krav, both for his likely offensive punch, and also to once and for all accurately update his value. Once his value is built up, whether we keep or trade, ok, but it is beyond stupid if Drury is allowed to go in another direction, keep Strome, jettison Krav at unacceptably low value, and by keeping Strome, set in motion a likely scenario where Kakko/LaF etc get dealt and not from a position of strength by us.
Second, what are we getting? Ideally a late 1st which is increased w/retain, but could be something like a 3rd this yr and a 2nd next. I would not pooh-pooh this so quickly. Remember Schneider? We traded up to get him. We could do that b'c we had sufficient picks. Adding more picks, not subtracting, gives us a stronger hand. And third, if you don't like who is there and want another option, it is likely you can trade a pick this year for a better pick next year or later down the road.
So all of that is signif enuf to take my approach.

I am not sold by any means on giving strome (and probably would NOT) a contract extension but after what we have seen so far from our young forwards we definitely are not a better team without Strome this year. Chytil or Barron take 2c role going into the playoffs? Not sure management would do that and don't totally blame them. I totally understand you looking down the road and don't totally disagree but I just don't think it would be worth losing Strome for a 2nd and 3rd if he gives us a better chance of winning in the playoffs this year. Which as much as we like to hate on him he does give us a better chance to win this year. Now if someone wants to trade us a first or better maybe gotta think about that.
By the way GG won't even give Barron a real chance and gave Brodzinski (who I think We know what we have with him already) his spot last night. Just saying your idea of Barron/Chytil getting those responsibilities in huge games are a not gonna happen with GG.

We agree to disagree than about value of self rental of Strome vs getting down to an essential core of who we are keeping and rolling with going forward, give them mo mins, development, familiarity as regular line yielding chemistry.

We COULD win it all and imo the dominant factor there is who is hot and who is healthy. But I would rather proceed as outlined and keep a comparable level of chance for this year, while building for and improving on the future.

They actually did have Kakko on their team before Panarin, he was signed after the draft. The fact still remains that there is no example of that working out in a rebuild. None of the teams who have won recently have signed a big name free agent for a large percentage of their cap. This team is built around him, not the 1st and 2nd overall picks.
Well, the team is what it is. We aren’t the ones paid to make these decisions.

Panarin isn’t a super fast, or physical player, nor is he injury prone, so I don’t see why his level of play will fade tremendously before his contract expires.

It’s impossible to know what our young players would be without Panarin, but I don’t see any evidence to suggest he’s holding them back. All of our young players have gotten top 6 opportunities this season. Even Chytil at this point. If anything, Panarin can feed these kids in the offensive zone to get more points.

At some point, someone has to actually play worthy of that promotion. Kakko started earning it big time this year. Laf will too soon I’m sure.

I’d rather be this than be Buffalo or Edmonton. No team is built perfectly. It’s just the realities of the cap.

plenty of our players have matured well as members of the team: Fox, Miller, shesty, Kreider, Zib. No reason to say that Kakko’s window is “the piece” you must build around because he went 2nd overall. It’s as arbitrary to to decide to build around him as it is around Kreider or Zibanejad.

Skill players looking for quality isn't the problem.

The problem is that Zibanejad and Panarin are anchors even strength and literally don't play unless they have a fantastic scoring chance.

They both picked that up after playing for the Rangers, particularly Panarin who used to be a demon off the puck.

Sorry but where do you get this from, he was never a 'demon' off the puck....it's just his results were better because he was heavily sheltered from starting in the defensive zone before he was a ranger....

This idea that there are only 2 or 3 contenders is so dumb. This is the hardest trophy to win in sports. You’re a top 10 team in the league you’re a contender

if you’re a top 5 or 6 team in the league and you’ve got cap space and assets coming out your ears you are DEFINITELY a contender and a buyer

Contender should mean realistically and somewhat likely to make the final 4. The Rangers aren't close to that, they are sadly closer to Arizona and Buffalo than they are that.

No, you don't. Not a year after you send out a letter to your fan base preaching patience and the process. That's like going out and buying a Ferrari just because you can afford it even though you're still figuring out how to build the foundation. There's not one team in recent history who has got the high priced free agent BEFORE their top prospects had established themselves as the leaders of the team. This team has been built around vets and the First and Second overall picks we've made are afterthoughts.

Sorry to say, this says more about the play of the 1st and 2nd overall picks more than anything else.

the Rangers have been a top 5 or 6 team all season. So by your example to be considered somewhat likely to get into the final 4 is hardly a stretch.

Unless you only consider the top 4 teams going into the playoffs the 4 teams that will always be in the final 4.

And by the way by thst logic who would be the ONLY 4 contenders?

Tampa of course but then who is the single only team considered a contender in the east?

Carolina? Team that’s never gone past the second round

Florida yah ok never do anything and would have to get by Tampa to get to the final 4 but ok sure

Are those the only contenders in the East?

no of course not. So that logic is flawed.

Pitt Washington Rangers Leafs are no question all in the same boat. To not consider them contenders is silly.

who are the contenders out west? Colorado sure

Vegas? They’ve got a 611 win percentage to the NYR’s 667. Minnesota they’re like 10 pts behind colorado. Are they not contenders? Is there only one contender out west then?

No of course not. Frankly the top 6 teams in both conferences are contenders. Any of them could win and that’s before we see what the deadline has in store
