I thought Stan's regular season play was a stwp forward but the Avs exposed his lack of footspeed in the playoffs

The Ava exposed our whole teams lack of foot speed in the playoffs.

Their best players were twice as good as our best players.

I actually thought Stanley took some big strides (insert 6'7" joke) last season but I think people are so sour on the whole history with him that they couldn't see the tree for the forest.

We are all human. It felt like he played well down the stretch and then, like a lot of the team, playoffs did not go well.

Some of these guys were just bodies, but a lot of head-scratching misjudgments on what were supposed to be impact players (Jokinen, Setoguchi, Stafford, Mason, Hayes, Eakin, Pionk, Schmidt, Toffoli).

Really? Half of these guys were making league min. Now make a list of answering the question and maybe we can start a real conversation.

Kupari definitely has better tools. Let's see if he can find some sort of toolbox for them... I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that this will be his best year to date. Not that that says a whole lot lol

Agreed and I do respect what Gus brings as well.

I think last season really soured people on Kupari. With an expanded role, I could see Kupari hitting 15-20 points with his totals slanted more on assists. I’d be happy with 4g 18 pts out of him.

You have made a really good point recently about how the Jets want PK mins out of the 3rd pair guy. Makes it tougher for those offensive guys to earn a spot if they aren't top four.

I'm not sure if Fleury is actually good at PK or not. I will have to keep an eye on that this year.

Certainly seems like his role to lose once Salomonsson has had his cup of tea and is back on the Moose. At least until Stanley is back anyway?

I still think it is possible that Salomonsson beats out Coghlan. Maybe doesn't start game 1, but gets a taste in one if the home games. And he has played on the PK this preseason, also practiced on it. I think it's possible there is a revolving door of 7th d-man until the regulars get healthy . Be interesting to see where players fit...I still see the Moose needing Coughlan for the PP. If he sticks none of Salomonsson, Lundmark, Anhorn, Bauer, Barteaux or Sauntner scream offense. Maybe Anhorn could run the 2nd PP.

While you a raise a decent point about PK, who's to say you couldn't have Declan kill penalties. Just because he's more offensive doesn't mean he can't kill i.e Arniel wanting KC and Scheifele to kill this year.

What Declan would have brought is speed, retrieval and puck moving. All things that we lacked against the Avs in the playoffs. This org does already has a franchise two way guy in JoMo and has its defensive specialists in DeMelo, Snerg and to a lesser extent Miller. We could use some more mobility and puck movement as Pionk is pretty awful at the puck moving part.

Also lacked a good PK, and box out around the net. Fleury and Miller could knock Pionk out of the PK...I still think puck moving is one of his strengths, you watch how much his d partners defer to him for breakouts. It's the defensive side of the game which is less than polished. Just my opinion.

No …. Kovacevic was drafted in 2017 was picked up off waivers in 2022.

In 20/20 he was with the Moose for a shortened Covid season where he had 14 points in 29 games…

I was huge on line here that we should of waived Copo B instead of Kovi!

If Helle was not our goalie then we’d be a bubble team year in and year out
Bro had an amazing season last year too.

But Helly is our goalie, i don't get the thinking that just because we have Helly we are a good team. To me that's a great thing to have, it's like saying the Oilers would be a shity team without McJesus . We have one of the best goalies in the League and one of the highest paid so to me that's a great thing. Now we just need him and the entire team to take it up a notch in the playoffs like the really good teams do .

For sure he got exposed but with the performance of all of his team mates I think it's kind of unfair to put too much weight on it.

The lack of forward support and the way we turned the puck over in the worst spots all series put our defence in really difficult, often outmanned situations.

Then when we needed a save to give us some solid ground to build on, we just couldn't get one.

That's what was so awful about that series, it was a failure from practically every player.

Salo does have more of a defensive/transition D background, that's true.

It feels like there is potential to develop his offense more. I think that part has to happen on the Moose.

But if we want to give him a taste and he can contribute and get NHL experience on the PK that's great I think.

Also very true... superstars are superstars and 3/4 of these guys were very very good. Overwhelmingly good.

I'd rather have Miller.

I still think Capobianco is a better defenseman than Kovacevic- I think the shame is e didn't find a way to use him last year.

I'll be watching him closely as I really like his game.
