@NYRFAN218
Great post! I agree with all the points brought up.

The Stadium Series jerseys didn’t look right to me. I mean it’s not overtly offensive to the eye or anything. The colors are basically the white Lady Liberty palette but it felt more like it fit the Hartford Wolfpack aesthetic than the parent club. (Sometimes from afar, those Stadium Series kits almost make them look like the Blue Jackets to me) But, I can appreciate that the NYR were thinking out of the box for that one. Which if the Rangers did not do in the 90s, the Liberty jerseys would never had seen the light of day. They’d have been traditionalists like the Red Wings who have zero changes to their kits for as long as I can remember(Outside of the outdoor games special jerseys)

But to add to your statements, the whites are GREAT. Since they’re the Broadway BLUEshirts, the blue jersey will always be revered. I’m not knocking those at all since I love them too. But, I think the elbow/hem striping and shoulder yoke designs just gives it the extra oomph factor. This is why I also really like the Winter Classic jerseys they’ve trotted out. The 2018 navy blue was really helped by the addition of those shoulder yoke stripes:

Now, the 2012 Winter Classics were just in a class of their own. I can not believe they’ve never managed to incorporate them as alternates over the years. It’s a shame to keep them relegated to one and done unlike most of the other WC participants who have used their jerseys here and there. (Philly would eventually use their WC as their third jerseys)

This brings me to another point of why the 2012 Winter Classics are special. Up until then, I’d chuckle to myself that the Rangers are the only team in the league who DON’T wear their official logo on their jersey crest. Of course I wouldn’t have it any other way since the diagonal RANGERS lettering is iconic. They should never stray from it. But it is an interesting tidbit that they are unique in this (This graphic is older and not updated, but you get the idea):

So, when the 2012’s were unleashed, I thought it was great that they created a mashup of the eras with a nod to the 76-78 Winnipeg , errrr, NY Rangers logo 😉 ‘shield jerseys’. Tastefully marrying what they were trying to do in those 1976 crests yet giving it that vintage look. IMO, they hit it out of the park.

I haven’t gotten my hands on a 2018 Winter Classic jersey (Can never find a good deal on one) but , I would add these four along with that one to my personal favorites of the last 25 seasons:
(They’re all replicas)

Great points- I too love the 2012 WC although it’s hard to maneuver around with that crest in the front. You take for granted what it’s like having the flexibility of the diagonal letters when you wear it lol. And so-

Great post! Do you have have a white CCM 550 to compare to the Starter jersey?
@nyrmetros
Most of my jerseys are replicas (sorry!) But, yes I do!

Went into the collection and snapped these photos for you. Starter on the left, CCM on the right

In case you were curious about the back, Starter branding was on the hem, CCM was under the back collar:

And for good measure; these are the differences of post-Pro Player period of CCM whites and KOHO blues branding. (The KOHO is a youth size, but you get the idea)

To answer your question about Pro Player being rebadged Starters. I’d have to say both yes but leaning towards no. I’ll explain…

Pro Player bought out Starter’s license to produce replicas and I believe also contracted the same companies Starter had used. BUT, the Pro Players really are made better. The fabric feels heavier and the stitching seems to be better overall. Honestly, if I had to choose between quality, the Pro Player kind of feels semi-pro while the Starter feels a step below.
Here is a close up of the stitched crest on my white Pro Player. The QC was surprisingly great on PP’s:

I’ve been wondering if this “raised” stitching is where Adidas loosely got the idea for the new current Primegreen Rangers jerseys where the lettering has a 3d raised effect. Blurry photo below of the Adidas Primegreen. But you can make out the texture of the lettering:

Agreed! I got a Seattle Kraken jersey for my collection and I can’t believe how that crest kind of stifles the range of motion when you’re wearing it. I don’t have an authentic like you posted, but does your WC feel like that? My 2012 WC is a replica, the shield crest is made of some felt type of material that’s soft and pliable enough that it moves along with you, while the huge Kraken “S” logo feels like you’re wearing a catcher’s chest protector.

In terms of what they actually wore on the ice and not the various retail versions of replica jerseys for me its

1: 94 style CCM
2: 2000s CCM/Pro Player/Koho/Reebok 5100 Style
3: Reebok Edge

Was never a fan of the 97 style starter on ice jerseys, the V collar that comes to a sharp point on the whites/blues didn't do it for me. Looked fine on the liberty but wasn't a fan on the regular sweaters.

In terms of actual jersey design these are my favorites

1: Road whites
2: 2012 Winter Classic
3: Home Blue
4: Original Navy Liberty
5: TBTC

Great conversation & I also echo the sentiments around the whites being my favorite. It's taken some time, when I was younger I followed the sheep of always buying blues just because they were home, but the white color schemes and the fact that the logos pop so much better really make them more attractive to the eye imo.

Regarding the above post, when did the Reebok Edge start, was that the first year after the lockout or later?

For the 2000's, is it correct that the CCMs were used for the whites and the Kohos for the blues, or were they used interchangably on ice?

I believe the Reebok Edge 1.0 cut came around the 2007 season. But it was definitely after the Rangers stopped wearing the Liberty jerseys since they were never ported over to the Reebok Edge.

Yes, whites were branded CCM, blues were branded KOHO. But they were the exact same materials. I think it just had to do with The Hockey Company trying to market the brands. There were teams that were outliers though like the Mighty Ducks or Red Wings, Blackhawks who wore Nike Bauer

Is there any place to see what the Rangers wore on ice each season?

Also, do you know when the Reebok Edge's were retired?

I used to lurk the icejerseys forums in the 2010’s and learned A TON from their members when I was just getting heavy into jersey collecting. Those posters shared a wealth of knowledge. Never really posted or shared my collection though because mine were mostly replicas.

Reebok Edge 2.0 replaced Edge 1.0. Then the whole Reebok Edge cuts were retired when the current Adidas Adizero system took over in the 2017 season

The crest is felt and stiff enough to be a bit annoying with respect to movement. I love it but it makes me appreciate the standard jersey more lol.

For anyone wondering about Arena Wear, they seem to be caught up with orders. The jerseys that I sent in early last week are done and are on the way back to me.

2 of my 2.0s were delivered Tuesday and yesterday they called me to clarify a detail and to let me now they're moving right along. I am always happy with AW. They move pretty quickly and do nice work.

Edit: they're already done. Woo

I'm thinking of buying this one. Wondering are there any red flags in terms of authenticity or does it look legit?

Another great post! Thanks for the CCM and Koho jerseys!

Looks legit but it ain’t team issued (not that that matters).

Team Issued. Meaning it was made and given to the team for a player but never used. The fact that it has retail tags attached, it’s size and the neck tag tell me it’s not. I’m not an expert on Jagr’s physical traits but I’m skeptical he wore a 52 (especially with pads on). A TI shirt doesn’t have the manufacturer branded tag inside, just the size one. And like I said the retail tags attached to the sleeve are a dead giveaway. All that being said it’s an authentic jersey. I’m a stickler for accuracy with these things and I’m not an expert on the Liberty’s but I know the names/numbers are supposed to be 3 layered twill but I can’t say for certain if this is. It looks good but I’d ask for pics of the inside and close ups of the numbers (back and sleeve) on the outside to see that it is in fact sewn on. And see if he know who did the customization.

Thanks! Do you know what he is referring to when he says it’s a “TI” jersey in the description?
Based on the pics the seller posted, it passes the eye test of being a legit KOHO.

The neck tag and NHL hem tag appear to be the correct ones that would be on this jersey style.
I agree with what Cygnus mentioned. Ask for a photo of the rear of the jersey turned inside out. This should reveal the number stitching. If you’re buying it to personally wear, I wouldn’t worry too much that it’s a size 52. Buy it and wear it to the arena proudly (Boy do I miss his one timer!)

I will just add that if you’re a real stickler for details, it is missing the Captain’s “C” or at least the “A” on the chest, but those can always be added on later.

KOHO jersey would only be an A.
They wore Reebok when he had the C.

Nice. I’m interested in a Shesty but I’m being a brat and holding out for a Made In Canada version. Which I’ll never see lol.
Buy the cheapest preseason jersey on FanaticsAuthentics, strip it and send it in.
That is the only way to do it.
