As for best defense man
Weber followed closely by DoughTy both hardly mademistakes constantly taking away scoring opportunities ,both scored, both hit weber more ,both generated offonsive opportunity ..Dougherty.. more ....
Still Weber was always out first into the tough situations
True they both benefited from great backtracking.forwards........yet they were dominate and near perfect..

People here are getting all worked up about Selänne being MVP, but people think it is fine that Kessel is named best forward? The guy was unnoticeable in the two games that really mattered :help:

Agreed with this, and at first I was sort of shocked and went "why?" when Selanne won but you know what, 2 goals in the bronze game. Led his team to a medal. And you know what, I'm okay with the final hurrah factor of his career being factored in. In terms of forwards for Canada, there wasn't one who stood out over the rest in my mind because of the team-first style that seemed to be played (not that Selanne was selfish). I think in terms of forwards, Selanne is a solid choice.

I think Doughty over Karlsson and Price over Lundqvist for the awards/all star team though. And I think they should have put Price over Selanne for MVP (winning gold is more important than winning bronze) but if they're going with a forward, Selanne is fine.

so selanne wins olympic MVP....what will his detractors use against him now. 4 time medalist, stanley cup winner, and now olympic MVP:yo:

he deserves it, only other players in convo are doughty and karlsson. boy lots of bitter people tho

You Canadiens are funny guys. First you think Stamkos and Tavares cancel out Swedens injuries without taking the fact that you have ten times more registrated hockey players , and therefore have 10times more quality players (or should have) to replace them with. So there is a huge difference between the losses for each team.. I question if Canada is so great at hockey.. The situation is similar to USA and olympics which i do not find so impressive since they have 315 000 000 to pick from. chances are good that they get more medals than south korea then.

Then you start Whining at Karlsson becuase he didnt perform on an injured team against Canadas stacked all star team.. Ask yourself. Do you think pietrangelo would have raised to the occation and carried Sweden to a gold medal today?

Using your logic China and India should win all the medals.Look at the population in those two countries.

Nope, actually he should have had more icetime..swedens coach didn't use him properly.

I'm just grinding your gears... My point is that Kessel seems to be held to some different standard than anyone else and it's bloody irritating. All the reasons that everyone is giving in defense of Karlsson could be used with Kessel. Neither of them should be saddled with the blame when it's a team game.

I don't think people believe that the situations are the same between all the countries. Canada definitely has the biggest talent pool, but if you take out any team's top players they will be affected, but Sweden's injuries definitely had a bigger impact on their team than Canada's injuries.

No because you do not take the genetical differences into consideration then.. But they would probably win most medals in a non physical competition like fifa if they participated

His defense let him down on that Austria game but since that he was by far the goalie in the tournament. Yes Price was good but Rask stood on his head and faced lots of more quality chances than Price.

Couldn't have gone wrong with neither of those 2 but Lundqvist is not the right choice.

Well I guess to impress some people, Price would have needed to post 5 shutouts in a row...

Kessel: All star against Slovenia. No-medal Phil, he and Burke will forever be tied together with losing.

I didn't know Selanne had detractors, everyone here seems to love him.

Eh, the sentimental factor definitely played a part in the selection, but Teemu was among the leading scorers of the tournament, scored some big goals and there's nobody else that really stood out that you can say was snubbed so it's a fine choice. There's also obviously no rule that the MVP should be from a finalist team nor should there be.

Quit your whining. Isn't it happy hour in Sweden right now? Go to a local bar and have a drink to celebrate a great result for your country.

We give out best player and mvp in the nhl and write often is different players. Different voters and mvp isn't necessarily best player.

Finland lost all 4 centers and looked like they wouldn't medal and their captain led them to a medal over a gold medal favorite.
Exactly. Finland is always in top level but few expect them to compete against the big guys. And thats without the trouble down the middle.

Depth at center wins you the competition.

Been out of here for 20 minutes and Swedish fans still crying that one of their players was dumb enough to take Claritan!:shakehead

Most consistent goalie throughout tournament Lundqvist and Price
Henrik gets nod as he had to be more relied on by his team yo win games.....Price receives second place only because he wasnt tested as much ...not to say he couldn't

Intrestingly Lindquist price Luongo played the angles on the big ice the best

As good and dominate as Rask and Quick were.....there were many times they had poor angles that either cost them or escaped damage inspite of those lapses....other times they we ree brilliant

It's strange. There's just so much arrogance and obnoxious posters from Canada on this board it baffles me. I mean it's the easiest thing to be a gracious winner, just say good game and give compliments to other teams, you already have a gold medal hanging on your neck.

Of the teams that medaled, Selanne was third in points and tied first in goals. Not as bad a pick as people here make it sound. You don't compete for MVP if you play mightily against the tiny teams and then disapear.
