Olympics: All-Star Team & Tournament Awards | MVP: Selänne

All I know is that Price, Karlsson, and Kessel winning Olympic awards is going to make Habs, Sens, and Leafs fans just slightly more obnoxious when the season starts again.

Also, DAT East bias in Sochi :sarcasm:

I haven't seen this much rage over MVp since well, Filip Forsberg was awarded MVP in the WJC.

again, it could be repeated that the vote is conducted before the finals, but after the bronze game, and no one really stood out from Canada's great team, which is probably one of the reasons they won gold. As it is clear that Teemu was vital in the bronze game and valuable for their success, people would do well to state who should have won instead.

Is there a country whose fans cry more over a loss than Sweden's? Swedish fans should learn from the classy Finn's who can accept that hockey is Canada's game!:handclap:
 Yes, all these Canadians who can take a defeat in hockey in a gracious manner.

Oops! But, it must at least be better when you're winning I guess.

Oops. I guess not. Even when winning, there is a chance for riots. You must teach us, mighty Canadians. ;) You are the last people on the planet to talk about staying gracious in defeat and especially when winning when it comes to hockey. It's hard to explain how a very civilized, well ordered, well mannered nation can become so crazy when it comes to hockey.

Yeah that's on Canada's nutty west coast where the home team Canucks made the mistake of stocking their team with Swedes who consistently FAIL to show up in the NHL playoff's!:shakehead

Can we not rag on the Canucks?

Wow let's judge a few million people based off of a hundred people who committed a crime that night!!

The Sedins have been Vancouver's most consistent playoff performers for years. Everyone else goes away or is on and off.

pls stop

Wow, how do you criticise the choices?

Lundqvist was better than Price. Karlsson better than both Daughty and Weber...

Unless you wanna go after results.

Then.... Subban is better than Karlsson just because Subban was a member of the gold medal team. It's hard to pick a star that shines brighter out of a frickin' galaxy of stars in team canada.

Wow. This is so wrong. Congrats for the awards. Canada is happy to bring home the Gold.

The reason Price is not on the all star team is that the voting for all star happens before final is played

People are judging a few million swedes based on a few that are being perceived as 'whiners'.

Selanne scored gwg against Russia and destroyed usa in bronze game, had 6 pts and was easily the biggest inspiration to his team. MVP means most valuable player for their team, not the best player of the tournament. Good pick, he had much more to do with finlands success than any other individual had for their teams success. Canada would have won with any of their 3 goalies, Price did not have to win it for them

Yup. A close game with Latvia. A 1-0 win against the US. Then blanking out 3-0 against the Swedes and any goalie can do it. The media give the MVP to Selanne for sentimental reason. Accepting it and be happy.:shakehead

It's not outrageous Selanne won the MVP. Aside from all the sentimental stuff, he had a great tournament. Doughty was probably robbed, but not blatantly. As if he cares, anyway.

At least I was happy to hear that one of the greatest players ever got nominated the MVP of his last Olympics at the age of 43 :) It's pretty impressing nowdays.

Bang on. Price for MVP? There Doughty, Weber and probably Toews and Crosby ahead of him

Just out of curiosity, why was Doughty robbed? Aside from being on the winning team today, how was his performance better than Karlsson's? Feels like if enough people say it, then the masses start to believe it.

The picks are chosen before final game. To give Price MVP when he shut out the almighty Latvia and the 4th place team who could not score inbronze medal game either....you really think those two shutouts behind the by far best team inthe tournament is such an incredible feat? He didgreat, but inno way was he more valuable to his team.

The MVP and all star selections should be awarded only to those that show up and contribute in every game. Selanne did and he is very deserving of the award.

Kessel, on the other hand, did not show up and contribute when it counted most. One might argue karlsson did not show up and contribute in his final game.

It's really funny when Euro's fans start to bash Price/Doughty/Weber to justify the MVP/Best Defenseman.:help:

its a joke that Grabner not is in the all star team.7 Goals have Austria, 5 he scores 1 assist.
Grabner best Goalscorer and 3 against Finnland (best defens wirh canada).

I am in no way bashing Price.

You just are not thinking of this clearly. They had to go by what they had seen BEFORE the final.

Carey Price had a shutout against USA, other than that he was not tested much.

Selanne had taken his underdog team riddled with injuries to the bronze medal game by scoring GWG in quarterfinals and then winning the bronze medal game with a 2 goal performance, giving a speech to the team prior to the game to get them fired up and offer perspective to the young players who were disappointed after the semifinal loss.

This is MOST VALUABLE PLAYER to their team, before the final game was played.

Are you really going to tell me that because (your habs goalie) Price won against Latvia and USA, behind the clear cut #1 team of the tournament, he was more valuable to his team (prior to final) than Selanne?

I don't want to get into an argument. I am sure all Canadian players are happy about the Gold and don't care much about individual award any way.
