Olympics: All-Star Team & Tournament Awards | MVP: Selänne

Selänne scored GWG in quarterfinals against Russia, and another GWG in bronze game against USA. No player from teams that midaled scored more goals than him in the tournament. It's not that bad of a choice.

And to put it into perspective both US and Russia were pegged to challenge for gold along with Canada and Sweden.

Typical that Canada wins but is barely represented on these.

Weber should be there over Karlsson.

Weber wasnt even the best defenseman on his own team, you probably didnt watch Sweden either. Karlsson drove the offense with all the injuries however Doughty wouldnt have been a bad choice either. I do find it odd that Lundqvist was first team all star while price was voted best goaltender.

Love Teemu as MVP!

People are taking these awards way too seriously.

"Opinions are like a**holes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks."

The medals have been handed out. It's time to relax. I'm off to take my opinion to a sauna. :yo:

In all fairness we are pretty sore losers too.

Yep - this would be a good subject for a vote: are Canadian HF writers worse losers or winners? They are pretty bad in each category... I would actually hate to be a Canada fan - all that you can expect are flawless blowouts, anything else is a bigger or smaller disappointment, so there are lots and lots of disappointments, not really much consoled by the inevitable (to the fans) victories, because they are just the natural course of things...

I would have liked to see Weber on the all star team. I'd take him over Karlsson every day of the week and I'm a Senators fan.

I was hoping for Doughty for MVP but Selanne is a pretty deserving choice. Greatest hockey Olympian ever?

Same here! I love to cheer even for bronze :yo::yo:

All the Karlsson bashing in the GDT (especially by a certain fanbase) was so annoying. The guy looked bad because he was actually trying. In the third, he was trying to generate offense and take risks.

SWE-CZE 4-2 win: 2 goals
SWE-LAT 5-3 win: 1 goal, 1 primary assist
SWE-SUI 1-0 win: primary assist on the GWG
SWE-SLO 5-0 win: 2 assists
SWE-FIN 2-1 win: GWG goal

He's deserving of the "Best Defenseman" Award... and by no means, he was bad defensively. Check his GA in the tournament. He controlled the pace and set the tone for the whole team.

Selanne scored gwg against Russia and destroyed usa in bronze game, had 6 pts and was easily the biggest inspiration to his team. MVP means most valuable player for their team, not the best player of the tournament. Good pick, he had much more to do with finlands success than any other individual had for their teams success. Canada would have won with any of their 3 goalies, Price did not have to win it for them

i would agree with this. Selanne pretty much carried his team to a bronze medal. with all the injuries Finland had. He did everything a MVP should. i really dont think there was anyone on Canada who stood out more then anyone else. they won as a team.
if it wasnt for Selanne, Finland is probably 6th or 7th.

A few things I noticed from this thread:

1) Quit *****ing about injuries and using them as any sort of justification. They are part of the game and they just make you look weak. If Canada loses they're not blaming it on Stamkos not being there, even though he's the best goal scorer in the world.

2) There is no way in hell that Price should not have been the MVP. Two shutouts against the US and Swedes (the two best offensive teams in the tournament). Yeah Selanne lit it up and I love the guy, but you don't give the MVP to a player on the third place team. Give your heads a shake on that one

3) The all star team is perfect except Lundy over Price. Yes Canada played nothing, but he held Finland, USA and Sweden (in case you didn't notice they finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th) to a combined ONE ****ING GOAL. Good luck justifying that one haha, what a joke

injuries are not a factor? please. Finland was down their top 4 centers for most of this tournament. Selanne carried his team to the bronze medal. he did everything a MVP should. So because the Finns didnt win Gold that player doesnt deserve MVP?
I bet you *****ed about Miller in 2010 too didnt you.
Give me a break. Selanne deserves MVP. Canada deserves the Gold medal.
Be happy your country won the Gold medal.

in the words of a wise man, lighten up Francis

Yup. A lot European fans said any of Canadian goalie can play well behind our defense. They did not recognize the fact that Price beat all semifinalist and held them to a total of one goal.:amazed:

1. You have widest depth. Your b-team would have been any others a-team. Other teams are way more affected by injuries than Canada. ;)

2. With defense that Canada had, you are expected to play shutouts. Hell, even i would have played shutouts there.

3. See above and all star team is picked up before final. Imo Price should be there but what are you gonna do.. Medals are what matters anyway.

Yeah we take to your next tournament out Crosby, Toews, Tavares, Stamkos and Doughty (Pitkänen).
Oh **** that doesn't change Canadas team a **** :O.

PS. If Canada doesn't win you cry about big field, timezone, europe, Canada didn't care and so..................

This is as good as I have seen him play ppst injury. How many goals was he on against in the tournament? He was plus 4 going into the game today and wasnt on for one today. Good luck to any d man looking good against Canada with the system puck pursuit and tenacity they forchecked with.

I think my favourite part is you just compared Doughty to Pitkanen hahahaha

While true, he did crap the bed against Sweden several times though. While early on in the tournament his fumbled shots resulted in him getting 1+1 for two consecutive fumbles, against Sweden those fumbled shots resulted in Finland losing two of their very best scoring chances. He was far from flawless in this tournament, yet one of our best in all games but the one against Sweden.

Lighten up sport. You and I both know Canada would still win without those five players. As you know, two of them were out and Canada still dominated both of the last two games. Quit whining.
