wasn't on the ice for a goal-against all tournament despite leading the Swedish D in icetime.
How much of his icetime was on the PP and how much during ES?

Based on his game against the US, Finland did not need Selanne to medal, and he did not make it count when it mattered most, against Sweden in the elimination game. He was not the best player on Finland. It sure does need explanation.
First off its a team game so Finns not making it to the GMG has little to do with Selanne.
Second its for the most valuable player for a team. Finns without Selanne dont medal. Especially based on his game against the US. Hr made it count when it matters most.
Third conference finals are not the same as Bronze in the olympics which is a one and done tourney.
Kessel made have made a case but he was MIA against Canada playing for a team expected to go for gold.LOL Selanne was not the MVP of this tournament. Think maybe they just didn't want to give it to a North American in Russia. I mean Kessel won top forward but Selanne gets MVP over him..
And Doughty and Price were more worthy candidates too.
Canada won in a team effort, you can't argue with Selänne winning MVP. Especially after being the oldest player to score in the tournament.
Good for him, hell of a career.
Exactly, was wondering the same.I don't understand how Kessel gets any sort of recognition. In the games that mattered for his team/country he was a no-show. That is a joke of a pick.

This would be a good argument for Weber, a not so good argument for Selanne. The MVP is not meant for the highest scorer though unfortunately that often becomes the default deserved or not.

Looked like a turn over machine today. Just because you don't get scored on, doesn't make you good.
Perhaps you can indeed make a case for Karlsson statistically. But shouldn't the top defender have at least a minor impact in the gold medal game, if he plays in it?
You mean the games where USA scored 0 goals? Do you expect one player to score a goal every single game alone? America didn't score a goal in 2 games, and Kessel gets the blame.
Expectations for this guy are higher than Wayne Gretzky!
Karlsson keeps racking up the awards.
Lol @ anyone questioning him.
On the ice for 9 goals for and 0 against. Sweden scored a total of 17 goals btw.
Karlsson was more valuable to his team than any other player.
Get real. There are a handful of players who had better tourney's than Kessel did. Players who actually raised their games and helped their country. Kessel did absolutely nothing when the games actually mattered.
Canada's a ridiculously talented team.
Did anyone on Sweden have an impact in the gold medal game?
