First off its a team game so Finns not making it to the GMG has little to do with Selanne.

Second its for the most valuable player for a team. Finns without Selanne dont medal. Especially based on his game against the US. Hr made it count when it matters most.

Third conference finals are not the same as Bronze in the olympics which is a one and done tourney.

Based on his game against the US, Finland did not need Selanne to medal, and he did not make it count when it mattered most, against Sweden in the elimination game. He was not the best player on Finland.

LOL Selanne was not the MVP of this tournament. Think maybe they just didn't want to give it to a North American in Russia. I mean Kessel won top forward but Selanne gets MVP over him..

And Doughty and Price were more worthy candidates too.

Kessel made have made a case but he was MIA against Canada playing for a team expected to go for gold.

The MVP is not meant for the highest scorer though unfortunately that often becomes the default deserved or not.

Canada won in a team effort, you can't argue with Selänne winning MVP. Especially after being the oldest player to score in the tournament.

Good for him, hell of a career.

Seems more of a sentimental/lifetime achievement award.

Looked like a turn over machine today. Just because you don't get scored on, doesn't make you good.

Stats should mean less in these tournaments because some players pad their stats against the second-tier teams.

I don't know how you look at what Weber did all tournament long (didn't miss a beat when the competition got better against the US or Sweden) and say that Karlsson was better. Karlsson struggled against Canada.

It isn't the Hart trophy though. It's MVP of the entire tournament. A tournament where a defense lead by Doughty and Weber allowed only 3GA and none in the final two games of the tournament.
