Wont happen, but imagine they pay up for Kane and Barbashev:

Svechnikov-Aho-Kane
Teravainen-Kotkaniemi-Necas
Barbashev-Staal-Fast
Martinook-Stastny-Jarvis
Stepan, Noesen

Kane takes Noesen’s spot on the PP

W/ Kane at 50% and Barbashev at just over $2M, that leaves $2-3M still for another depth D acquisition

Wont happen unless they do an about face on their stance on paying for rentals

Do we really need Barbs though? I get that he is a useful and versatile player but I don't really see him as that much of an upgrade (if at all) over anyone on the 3rd line. I mean, if we have the space, then sure but it also sounds like the ask for him is fairly high.

“Need”, no, but I think he’d be an upgrade over Martinook on the Staal line, plus he’s got a better track record of playing C than Martinook does, so he seems like the type of versatile add that could really make a difference.

I also like the fact that he’d potentially bust Martinook down to the 4th line to add some extra grit there to make room for Jarvis and Stastny.

Like you point out, the asking price is high. I just think he’d be the type of player that would fit well under RBA and adds depth across all forward positions as he can play either wing or C and also up and down the lineup.

It’s more important, I think, for them to make a bonafide scorer their main add, but I also think Barbashev would be a sneaky good add as well.

I wish the man a speedy recovery, but very happy he's not a likely option.

Washington isn't trading Wilson or Kuzy to a division rival.
Likely true, but what if we offered to pay Kuzy in cocaine?

(On a sidenote, I was listening to an interview with Michael Dorn recently and he was talking about how on the first TV shows he was on in the 80s they literally budgeted the cocaine and other drugs for the cast and crew).

Freidman says in 32 thoughts carolina has talked to Boston about Craig smith which I find weird considering I have no idea where he would fit. Also says if they don’t get Meier they are still eyeing Kane

Speaking of Michael Dorn, I am really looking forward to seeing how Worf is played in this season of Picard. Sounds like he's gone through a pretty big character development, and the cast says he might be the best character this season. He was always one of my favs, so I hope it works, because Dorn absolutely deserves a spinoff series.

I haven't gotten to watching Picard yet, but Dorn said that the final season is indeed the fitting sendoff to the TNG cast that they never got before. So I'll have to tackle it soon.

That would just be a Cap play. Boston will pay some team to take Smith so they can add Gavrikov. Carolina would get a 3rd round pick or so for their trouble.

It would be an interesting power move by Carolina to facilitate a Cap dump for Boston to get better.

Only 1 episode into the 3rd season. The first 2 seasons were meh... I mean they weren't bad but they weren't what I was expecting with Picard. This season is hitting all the right notes.

Eh, do it and take the "free" pick. Someone else is going to do it regardless so it's not like we could block them from getting Gavrikov if that's their move.

Ya but he’s making 3 plus million and just to get a third round pick i don’t really see the point unless they actually plan on playing him but he’s not any better then stepan or noesen

The reason Craig Smith is being rumored to Carolina (potentially) is because Columbus is allegedly asking for an exorbitant price to take on a cap dump in the Gavrikov deal (2nd rounder?). Heck, an extra 3rd or 4th is still a nice piece to suck up.
Where’s he playing? Would lead me to believe maybe fast could be moved I don’t think you just bring a 3 million dollar player for a third round pick to sit him in the press box

He's already been a press box player in Boston, so the status quo practically doesn't change. It's an extra draft pick for an expiring contract. That's a pretty sweet play in my book.
