Chase Priskie officially a UFA as of 5PM.

What I hope happens: sign with Canes
What will actually happen: signs with NJ, NYR, or PHI
I guess it'd be nice, but it seems like if it were destined to happen, the original trade rumors would have come to fruition to make it happen. So, aside from an almost 2 month old, obviously stale rumor at this point, no reason to have any kind of hope that it will happen. Not gonna lose any sleep over it though.

Where's the intel from? The CBA says he's under exclusive negotiation rights up to and including August 15, which I assume should last all day until midnight.

Unless there is some stipulation elsewhere that a day in the CBA sense ends when the Central Registry closes for business at 5 pm NY time or something.

I don't really understand where this Priskie talk comes from. I know Sara was throwing out the idea of getting him and moving Faulk but that's all I saw. Is there anything credible oput there stating the Canes have interest in him as a Free Agent or that he has interest in the Canes?

Could be the technicality that the SPC counts only once it's registered at the Central Registry and that generally needs to be done by 5 p.m. NY time. If the registration doesn't happen by that time, technically he has already gone (draft-related) UFA by the time the CR next is open for business.

It's still an ELC that he will sign and subject to the ELC rules and limitations, so the maximum possible contract itself doesn't get any better.

It is known.

Here's an article from 2018:

Toews, de Haan Surgeries: The plague of Islanders Shoulder returns

Quoting from that article: "But de Haan’s latest shoulder surgery — the third major one in the career for a player who was feared to be 'injury prone' during his development before making the Isles — also could affect what he can command on the market next summer."

And that's before he'd played a single game for Carolina. He's now had multiple surgeries on both shoulders, and that **** never gets better. You just shorten all the tendons and re-staple them to the bone until they're all used up.

Look, if you want to second guess this risk assessment, that's your right. But let's not pretend that because DeHaan and his agent say "rehab's going great! We'll be ready for opening night!" that he's destined to play 82 games. That just hasn't been the reality for this guy his entire career.

As a guy who has had multiple shoulder surgeries- I concur with your opinion.

Because you're not actually helping Calgary long-term, that's why. You're helping Calgary get out of a situation of their own creation in exchange for valuable 2020 draft picks.

Yeah, but you can get a 5th rounder by trading somebody who looked good in rookie camp or whatever, it's not something worth upsetting the NHL lineup over especially when that lineup has already seen quite a bit of change this offseason.

If he can get an immediate opportunity for NHL playing time, he's likely not signing here. If the market is soft in that respect, this is a good fallback option; there is potential for real opportunity in 20-21. I assume the news for tomorrow is that he'll talk and perhaps visit with Carolina, Anaheim and other interested parties.

Seems like Calgary would be a good option for him.

Calgary's opening is on their left side, though, and Priskie is right-handed. I think Priskie will either go to the Canes or the Ducks. Ducks make a lot of sense because they traded Montour for a 1st and they have an open competition at third-pairing RHD. Dark horse pick IMO is San Jose; they'll need plenty of ELC talent after Karlsson's mega-extension.

Yeah, I'm getting some Twitter rumors from some rather illegitimate sources that Priskie is about to be a Jerky Boy and will become the #1A RHD in Charlotte alongside AHL analytical darling Kyle Wood. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Again for what it’s worth Chris Peters (the ESPN guy who reported Anaheim or CAR were the most likely destinations) also replied with a Gif somewhat confirming Civ’s assumptions.

How odd that trying to read rumors has turned which way you interpret a gif. We’re doomed.

Before this off-season, I had RHD as a strength at the NHL level and a relative weakness at the farm level. Within a span of a few weeks, Canes may run Wood/McKeown/Priskie at the AHL level, all IMO legitimate NHL prospects who all have a chance at potentially getting full-time gigs next year. I like it very much, and they also have Luke Martin in college this year up for an ELC next off-season.

Kuokkanen-Geekie-Gauthier
Gibbons-Luostarinen-Mattheos
McCormick-Bishop-Maenalanen
Pritchard-Lorentz-Smallman
Shinkaruk

Bean-Priskie
Lintuniemi-Wood
Fitzgerald-McKeown
Sheppard

Nedeljkovic
Forsberg

That IMO is a pretty stellar AHL team, particularly the top lines. AAAA icon Gibbons on the 2nd line mentoring the two ELC newbies, and some of the best defensive forwards in the AHL making up the 3rd line.
