Necas plays with speed and PK Svech doesn’t, I’m not convinced Svech won’t turn out to disappointment rather than the player we hope him to be

I'm starting to think the same, but can't imagine he gets traded considering how all-in the team is on him. They'll keep gutting it out, hoping that his superstar light will come on, while legit superstars like Kucherov and such continue to come out of nowhere and dunk all over the Canes.

Trading either Svech or Necas right now would be a mistake. If we want to go out and get Eichel, I'd start with a great prospect, Trocheck, and a 1st, and build from there.

Trocheck + Jarvis + 1st and I wouldn't bat an eye. Figure out the cap situation after the fact, but I would hold firm on keeping Svech and Necas, as those two are key depth pieces that are set to explode soon that we really shouldn't be looking to unload. Losing Jarvis would hurt, but he's still a prospect, and Eichel is a legit 1C star that would force Aho down to the 2nd line, which is a stupid silly prospect to think about.

Hoping the Roster Assemblers in the Borg FULLY wait for Eichel's health to be known - isn't he potentially at risk of going through an unprecedented procedure on his neck? That fact, and the related fact that he even has an issue that MIGHT require that gives me much pause re: any trade of one of our top guys for Eichel.

Sign and trade would be ideal for us. Jets want him, I would take DeMelo back (should have been our trade target in 2019 anyways).

Who else? Toronto? Holl and Hyman’s rights?

DeMelo or Pionk were the guys that popped in my head. Would Hamilton re-sign in WPG though? Then there’s the issue of having to protect a D you may get back in return. Maybe the supposed deal wouldn’t happen until after the expansion draft for that purpose alone.

And Pionk adds extra issues as he’s RFA

Over the weekend on SiriusNHL, Dave Pagnotta and Dennis Bernstein said that Eichel has finished up his physical therapy for his neck and a surgery decision and more insight into his health should be communicated to interested trade partners over the next week or so with medical records and physician recommendations, etc.

If you aren't going to keep him, get whatever you can for him. Maybe it helps for him to see what's out there if there is any hope of keeping him too.

Very interesting, Friedman generally knows what is up with the Canes. Very GMBC move if they pull it off. Undercuts Seattle's UFA window for him. Any interested team would also have to have a spot to protect him.

edit: follow up makes sense as well

You are right….one is disciplined enough to be trusted on the PK.
To be fair, playing on the penalty kill doesn't necessarily mean a guy is disciplined or good at playing defense at even strength. Eric Staal managed to get enough time short-handed to become the franchise leader in short handed goals.

Also, new surgical options are good, not bad. In this case, it allows the neck to retain full function when healed. Bobby Orr's career was destroyed by traditional surgeries, modern surgeries for those issues have players playing again in a month. The traditional surgery for what Eichel has is to fuse parts of the spine together. Yeah, it's been done for a while, but replacing the disk won't permanently reduce the flexibility of his neck.

What would a sign and trade for Jones look like? He's stated he wants to leave Columbus-- with a year left on his deal, I don't know how much leverage CBJ would have in trade negotiations. Basically we would be offering them an above average offensive defenseman (signed long term)+ in exchange for a guy they know is walking.

Makes no sense to pony the assets it would cost to acquire Jones when next offseason would be Hamilton 2.0 as far as an extension goes. If they’re in the market for an Alpha RD, makes the most sense to just pay up for Hamilton

With more and more organizations going heavy analytics, Jones won’t have the save fan fair next off-season. He would be a prime one year contract trying to up his value player. I think he really needs to push to be traded if he wants a large deal next off-season.

Maybe, I just have to think we wouldn't need to pony up much more just to kick the can a year down the road with an upgrade at that spot. If we could buy that year of a better player on the cheap given the lack of leverage CBJ has, it may be worth it.
