The truly baffling part is signing junk in free agency to 'shore up' the bottom six... instead of just finding a guy for 3C... like Roslovic - then you throw away a good prospect to fill that need

And you still have a goalie problem and a RHD problem... very strange

Oh, there are GMs out there with raging boners for a 6'4" hard hitting, minute-munching defenseman...unfortunately for them, there's a salary cap.
As much as people have given Chevy shit over "not doing anything" both this offseason and last, he's yet to make the misstep of signing anyone to a truly disastrous contract like Nurse or Seth Jones.

Maybe Ladd saved him from that. Even Monahan at 5x5 would have been BAD, but not in the same tier as some contracts out there

The more troubling thought here is that this move may the outcome of Mcgroarty now excercising his leverage and perhaps making a trade more difficult for Chevy -perhaps letting it be known that he won`t sign with Buffalo (or select other teams) either.... ?
Note: this is pure conjecture.

Dylan’s all around on the blue line? Even more upset they let Dillon go now.

Are there analytics around players names and Chevy spotted something and is cornering the market?

it might not be Ladd and Monahan saving him from these deals, it could be process. they might put a value on a guy and stick to it. maybe that's why we rarely sign a desirable and expensive UFA. who was the last, Jokinen?

What I find even more troubling is that rutger is calling Chevys house at 2am leaving drunken mumbling threats and yelling remember the Alamo!!!

You'd have to think Chevy has his focus on one of the young d-man from Columbus for Rutger. One of Jiricek (RHD), Mateychuk (LHD) or Ceulemans (RHD). Maybe the holdup is the rumour about Laine returning, and a bigger trade has been worked out. It could be Chevy wants to be able to talk to Laine before making a move, and he can't do this until Laine is no longer in the players assistance program. Retention or salary would have to be going back, but I can see Columbus being interested in Iafallo as they could easily flip him for a 2nd at the TDL.

Working off the Canes wanting Ehlers rumour. The most probably return would be Necas, but even if both were extended Ehlers is more valuable. I don't think the Canes would add a 1st, but maybe a 2nd? Not sure if that is enough. But if that is enough to add to McGroarty to get Jiricek from Columbus would it be worth it? Net result Ehlers and McGroarty out, Necas and Jiricek in. Might be a way to get a young potential top pairing RHD into the organization?

Really hope it is not Necas. Nikishin please... although that's unlikely.
Necas and Ehlers had similar xGF% and corsi numbers last season, although actual goal differential Ehlers was much much better

Pretty sure the xGF% was the prime stat that people were using to complain about both connor/schief combo and Ehlers not playing with Schief and Vilardi
