I doubt Benson is in play but could see Savoie who is a bit blocked by their depth at center and RW. Would love Savoie and a first.
If Savoie is the piece coming back there is no way the Sabres add a 1st. He's a blue chip prospect who is crushing it in the WHL and AHL(though not many games but so far a PPG player). Maybe a later round pick but no way a 1st IMO.

I doubt it 10th overall but could be 2025 1st top 10 protected. My bad they have 14th now, not 10th.

Chevy has a weird way of convincing teams to give up as much as he's asking for, or more

Could also be a bigger deal involving McG's rights

The upside to that situation is that Rutger ends up in Buffalo lol

buffalo has spent 7 1st rd picks on fwds since 2019, including 5 of the last 6 selections. then add another 5 2nd rounders in that time frame. i am really unsure if they need another fwd prospect, when their A) fwd group is rich in prospects B) their fwd group is solid in the nhl.

What about 14 th pick, rosen (14 th pick 2021), 2 rounder for ehlers and iafallo. Both 1 year to ufa.
I think chevy would br targeting a player who developed as a centre

Maybe they see something in Rutger that their prospect pool lacks. Savoie and Ostlund are on the smaller side, and Krebs is 6'0

I've been on the fence on this topic - but here's the thing, I think.
What if taking Laine as part of the deal (with a lot of retention) enables getting a Mateychuk, Sillinger or Jiricek?

I'm not interested in taking on Laine and all of his baggage just to get them to toss in a 2nd or 3rd rd pick. I'm only interested if Laine unlocks something much better.
I don’t value Sillinger the same as Mateychuk or Jiricek. Doubtful they’ll be the sweetener.

One of them or #4 would need to be in any McGroarty deal though.

The funny thing about Columbus being in on McGroarty is that that organization does not give a f*** how highly rated a prospect you are, if you don't perform down to the AHL you go. Kent Johnston 6th overall pick coming from a 40+ point to the NHL season got sent to the AHL after having a shit training camp where he was out of shape. Jiricek has been in the minors as a top 5 pick. Maybe their new management is different so we'll see but he better hope he is NHL ready as most NHL teams will send you to the AHL if you are not ready unless it's a completely downbad team like Chicago or San Jose.

Is ehlers and iafallo good ?
Ehlers is elite. Iafallo is a defensive specialist who had good results with LA but was just OK in Winnipeg

Ehlers is a speedy top 6 winger who is great in transition and can be a decent half wall guy on a PP unit. Iafallo is a middle 6 winger who plays with a bit of grit, can play up and down the lineup if needed and is a solid PKer.

Two decent pieces for a team looking to turn a corner.
