I'd be cool with Laine coming back, CBJ is certainly retaining on that. His final year with us was pretty good and I kind of underrated it looking back. That was 4-5 years ago now though, but if he can find 80% of that or so that'd be a solid top 6 addition.

Last year I view as a write off given his stint with Player Assistance, the previous two years id say he was pretty good in CBJ. Year one of the trade he did struggle though. IMO coming back to a familiar situation where he and the team achieved high success can rejuvenate him. I can't see him costing a ton in trade. I think itd also rejuvenate a fan base and get ppl hyped again since he was a big fan favorite at the time and marketed or related heavy to the new/young gen.

Nothing posted about it Here yet but Waddell even openly adressed trying to get Laine a fresh start ASAP and he's about to leave the players programme. Nothing connected to the Jets yet though. But there might actually be smoke here.

I'm not sure how I feel about getting Laine back.

First off I don't like him at his 8.7 contract. He would basically have to come for next to nothing or even with a sweetener to take that on IMO. It would force the Jets to move out other contracts as well (Pionk / Schmidt, Iaffalo, etc.).

You also have to know he's healthy, both physically and mentally. He's had a rough few years, and he's currently a huge risk.

If he's even in the mix, and the Jets somehow acquire him, do you try and extend Ehlers? Doesn't that put us back to where we were before with so much cap taken up by wingers? And skilled ones at that, none in the top 6 would have much, if any defensive skills or physicality.

And what does that mean for Perfetti? I don't think moving on from Perfetti is a good move, especially to take on larger contracts.

Man, imagine if Chevy could get Laine back for a song

He would have turned Laine (and Roso I guess) into Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, MTL 2nd AND Laine lol... (obviously minus whatever he sends in that trade)

Man, imagine Perfetti dishing to Laine

Connor Schief Vilardi
Laine Perfetti Ehlers
Lambert Lowry Nino
Barron Names Iafallo

Not sure how that line up would fare, but it would be fun to watch

We would be hard pressed to keep fly with Laine's contract imo.

You could just put Cole at 2C though as we wouldn't be able to afford a 2C in this scenario. I like the idea of him setting up a right shot scorer in Laine.

I like all the players for sure, just trying to visualize that team trying to win 16 games in the playoffs.

There's 0 grit / physicality / defense in the top 6. Perfetti might have the best defensive metrics lol. Tons of skill for sure. And 2.1M Apples on the bench. With that much $ in the skilled wingers, what can they afford on D is my worry.

Edit: I do love that new 3rd line though. I wonder if they could find a taker for Iaffalo and put Apples there on the 4th as well (from a cap perspective).

So what your saying is no change from last year in terms of top 6 😜

I'm assuming either apples or iafallo gets dealt

Teams like to model past cup winners. In this case, Chevy would be invoking his inner Glen Sather. It's been a while since somebody tried taking the 80s Oilers approach

Score 7 and hope that Helle can keep it to 6 or less ala Grant Fuhr

Somehow we manage to get even softer lol

It really comes down to what the Jets get for both Ehlers and McGroarty. It's hard to fill out the roster without knowing if they get roster players back (and at what position), or futures. And if the Jets are trying to re-sign Monahan.

I've mentioned him before, and there's likely a 1% chance he's available, but I'd love to be able to add Cirelli. Not a big scorer as your 2C, but with our wingers being of the "skilled" variety, we need C's to handle a big defensive load.

Ross Colton was traded at this time last year for the 37th pick. He only scored slightly less than Cirelli. I'd wonder if a package of the 37th plus a cheap player like Kupari would be enticing enough (if the Bolts don't find another way out of their cap issues).

Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
Laine - Cirelli - Perfetti
Nino - Lowry - Lambert
Barron - Names - Apples
Gus

Iaffalo (4), Kupari(1) Schmidt (5.95) moved.
Laine (8.7) + Cirelli (6.25)

Still leaves us with +4M added after all that and no added improvements to the D. :(
