Toffoli has looked real good. honestly feel like he was worth more of a 1st than Monahan and Monahan a late 2nd and 3rd. but whatever .

apparently he's looking for a deal similar to Alex Killorn 4ish years 6ishM.

From what I've seen so far, I'd do 4 years @ $6 mil.
He's had a great start, but there's a reason he's had 6 teams in 5 years. His d game makes KFC look like Patrice Bergeron. I think it was Button or somebody yesterday suggesting that he was a 200 ft player........he isn't. Not even remotely.

So much recency bias.

In two weeks if Moneyhands gets hot and Toffoli doesn't score this whole comvo gets flipped on its ear

ill concede some recency bias on Toffoli. if Monahan plays superior/produces at a higher rate then the convo gets flipped. well yeah duh?

for sure he has only been here few games, and have said a few times it's been against bottom feeders he's beaten up on so trying to certainly keep that in check. If he goes cold or doesn't show up then yeah maybe it changes.

i think the production lately is a virtue of who he is playing (ie CBJ and the Ducks)

he and ehlers have meshed well by my eyes though. is it bad competition, or great chemistry :dunno:. they'll have many more gp to find out.

the 6 teams in 5 years thing is a fair point; one thing id point out is he did relatively well scoring at each stop so i think he meshes well with new teams. i don't agree on your KFC defensive game comparison, over the past 3 seasons his xGA numbers are better than KCs. along with better goal-differential at 5v5-hockey, and i really don't think the combo of NJD/CGY/MTL have better goaltending than WPG.

Toffoli is coming off of a deal that pays him 4.25m per year.
If everything turns out, I'd offer him 4.75m-5m over 3 years.

It's not just recent though. Since the start of the 22-23 season Toffoli is (tied for) 26th in the entire NHL in goals scored. He is ahead of both Scheifele and Connor, although he's played more games (147) than both, which says something in itself.

The money would be OK, as long as it doesn't tie our hands too much.
But I would not like that term, at all.
4 years a 6m for each of them would be ideal... our window is the next two years - after that, its still some question marks if Connor re-signs, Lambert/Chib/Perfetti step up

Pretty sure if Jets end up in a bind they can trade a package of Iafallo, Schmidt to someone now that Schmidt's numbers are looking better

I had pretty much closed the book on Stanley's future, but if these last two games are who he can be, the defense options for next year will make for interesting discussion.
He's fine as a 7D. Not sure about an every day regular though. His best games this year from what I recall were usually against bottom feeders like SJS and the last two.

I think coming off 2 seasons of over 30 goals he'll be looking for more than a $750k per year raise, especially with an increasing cap.

I wouldn't do either of them for those contracts. Even if their play holds up to justify the $$$, I wouldn't go 4 years on either. JMO

Are you kidding?
Toffoli never in his career had a contract worth more than $5 but by the looks of it I think there will be a few teams after him if this keeps and the Jets go deep in the playoffs.
No, not kidding, but I freely admit I don't know as much as many here let alone Chevy.

I was just basing my comment on Toffoli's apparent chemistry so far, and also his numbers over the past couple of years. He seems like he may be a "late bloomer"

2023/2013 so far - 65 GP, 30 G, 19 A (49 pts)
2022/2023 (w/ Calgary) - 82 GP, 34 G, 39 A (73 pts)
2021/2022 (w/ Mtl, then Cal) - 74 GP, 20 G, 29 A (49 pts)

Seems comparable or more points than Ehlers who seems to be universally considered worth $6 million (currently being paid $6.5 mil).

It came to the point where I didn't even want to see him as a 7D. It drives me wild that a big man like him will not routinely use his size to box out the opposition during board battles.

I do want to see more and I think this run of games to the end gives Chevy a great opportunity to evaluate the future of our D

I do like how he stepped in front of Scheifele yesterday to act as a complete shield from that Jacket player threatening him.

Thats the max I would go - but we got Niedereitter for two years and a good price... so I'm hoping Chevy does 3 years deals

But assuming, ing the Ehlers chemistry holds up - we can't let these guys walk and then turn around and ask Ehlers to re-sign... but hey we will find someone for you to play with, we promise haha

We also don’t know if either player wants to stay a jet after the off season or who will re sign or who will be traded. We don’t know if we get swept in round 1 or make it to the end. Those deep runs can influence a player to sign (like stastny). Keep in mind cap is going up too. There’s just too much up in the air

Just enjoy the ride for now
