Looks like it’s Hertl AND two 3rds for the 1st plus the prospect (who was drafted 32 overall - almost a second rounder). To help their biggest rival. It doesn’t make sense. Plus they retained on Hertl for six years. Not sure what SJ is doing

Edstrom doesn't really look that special of a prospect... production is decent in the SHL but I would have him below Barlow and above Chibrikov on the Jets scale. Not a big fan of it from SJS perspective, they better hope that that 2025 1st is unprotected and VGK somehow tank next season.

I feel like I should stop myself because I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, and it’s more likely Grier is just THAT dumb, but something is fishy with the Hertl trade.

So SJ traded their best player, who is under contract for six more years, AND they retained on him, AND they threw in two 3rd round picks to their biggest rival. They’re helping their biggest rival for the low cost of a 1st (which should be late) and a prospect, who was drafted 32 overall, so nearly a 2nd round talent. It just doesn’t make sense.

Again, I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist because it’s probably just Grier being dumb but what the hell, man. Just seems like an extremely odd trade for them to make.
