I’d be more interested in Mittlestadt. I think if Dillon and Demelo are looking at extending here, ville can get u a 2 center. Buffalo wants D men. Maybe ville plus 1st and they take Stanley or Schmidt and can trade their picks for a goalie.lindholm screams rental and if I’m making a big move it’s someone off the board who actually makes sense for this group. Minnesota mafia
The Sabres have a plethora of LHD starting with first overall picks Dahlin and Power.
Ville and a 1st doesn't get you Mitts...they'll want players.
Barron, Kup and a 1st is a start.
Mitts is an 8th overall pick that is on pace for 70 points on a shitty team...you aren't getting him for a 1st and a D that has played 35 games in the last 4 years.

How about Barron, Chishom, and a 1st for Lindholm?

I think Barron has top 6 power forward potential and has impressed me the most this year. Chisholm is LD that CGY doesnt have a ton of and he can compete for 3LD, and the 1st is a great get as well.

Why is Mittlestadt's name out there? Seems like the kind of guy that Buffalo needs... why punt on him now?

Probably BS.

They have been floundering for years and some guys get sick of it and want to have a chance to win

Imagine you are the Buffalo GM this summer and you have a chance to land the best American goalie maybe of all time. Its going to cost you but its likely going to cost you assets you can afford because none of them are going to help you win now anyway. Instead you don't and decide to put your prized rookie goalie in net and maybe soul crush him forever.

I think I might not want to commit my future to a team like that either

Not sure if I want a high priced rental.

In Winnipeg he is a 65-70 point 2C that is an elite PKer that also plays on the PP.
In his best season he had 82 points in 82 games, his linemates that he played with every single game of the year had 104 and 115 points, I feel like you might be overestimating how much of an offensive boost he'd get coming to the Jets, especially since he would be going from a primary role in Calgary to a secondary role here. He got praised a lot for his defensive game that season, but underlying stats suggested that Tkachuk had a lot more to do with that line's solid defensive play than Lindholm. Underlying stats this season say he's below average on the penalty kill compared to his own teammates, in both actual and expected goals against he's the 2nd worst penalty killing forward on his team.

I like Lindholm a lot, if the price was right I'd take him in a heartbeat and love it, but I just feel like he'd cost too much for the value that he actually brings.

I wish the TD were closer, so we wouldn't have to speculate.

Yes, for the price of Lindholm, we could perhaps get 2 similarly skilled options for that price.

He is becoming too hyped. Good analysis @Atoyot

Adam Henrique is a solid 2C that could be cheap to attain. I hate giving up much on a rental. Especially considering our line up when healthy.

I'd be tempted to look at Vilardi at C while scheifele is out.

If we're healthy, I'd hate to tinker too much.

I like Henrique too.

I want to believe in vilardi as a centre. He’s just sooooo slow. Not sure he’ll be a good fit unless the molasses miraculously drops from his skates.

You said it well. Putting Vilardi at center isn't based on anything other than need. Same with Perfetti. At least for this year anyway.

Gabe's biggest strengths are drawing guys into board battles he can win often and his work within 10 ft of the net.

I can see 25 year old Perfetti being able to do it once he has much more experience and has that man strength that comes with age.

We need someone who can play in the middle and be trustworthy to throw out against McDavid, McKinnon, Robertson, Kopitar, etc.

I get why many prefer a longer term fix. Our team is in a good position cap wise compared to most. But the second we lock up a 7-8 million dollar player there, we need to get rid of two guys making 4 million.

Giving up a 1st and a prospect for 20 games with no guarantee of success for a guy like Lindholm could end up looking like a huge waste of a pick like Hayes did.

But if we are giving up even more for a long term 2C, and having to pay that guy... well if it means (1) losing a defenseman and (2) a glue guy like Iafallo on top of the increased return for a 2C with term... is that actually better than losing the 1st?

If it costs:

-a 1st and Lambert and another pick

-plus we can't keep Dillon

-plus we have to deal Iafallo or Appleton + Namestnikov/Barron

We are locking up a key position. But we are essentially giving up four or five useful pieces for one?

Isn't that exactly what we gained from the PLD trade?

At least with a pure rental deal, we just suck up dealing a 1st, we shoot our shot.

And that's the cost. It doesn't affect anything next year or beyond cap wise.

Long winded so my apologies. But that's why I feel a rental makes more sense for this team and it's window, and it's cap structure moving forward. Namestnikov, Perfetti, Lambert, McGroarty are all internal options the team can look at next year and beyond.

Lambert would've been an option. But he got concussed in a hit last week. He has been dominant and has NHL speed

You can't parachute a 20 year old kid with zero regular season NHL games into the 2C role playing matchups vs the best players on the planet

People tend to forget that good prospect =/= good NHL player

Someday, sure it's a possibility

I read this and it actually changed my mind and I think we should get Lindholm whether he is a rental or not.
He usually plays against the other team's best players. Having Scheif Lindholm Lowry as our top 3 centers would be amazing. It'd be hard for opposing teams to get away from a matchup. Play Lindholm with D minded players like Volare and Perfetti and you have a pretty good scoring, D-minded line. If they try to get away from Lowry's line, you have Lindholm's.
I think Chevy has to go for it this year. How many chances are we going to get? I think he pulls off a substantial trade.

KC Scheif Ehlers
Perf Lindholm Volare
Nino Lowry Apples
Barron Names Iafallo

That would be an awesome lineup to go into the playoffs.

I’m curious if maybe Ottawa and the Jets make good trade partners. Chychrun actually makes sense but they also have a couple interesting 2 center guys also. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

Can they even afford someone with term though, considering Perfetti getting a big raise and needing to re-sign Demelo and maybe also Dillon
Yes I look at Samberg to replace Dillon and I can’t see Perfetti signing long term it’s going to be a bridge deal and I can’t see demelo demanding to much and Schmidt being bout out /traded

Who takes Sammy's place?

I'd sooner have Zub than Chych. He'd make a good pairing with Heinola.
