Denis lost in straights set to Nishioka.

Bouchard got through qualifying at the 500 event in Ostrava.

Huesler upsets Rune in Sofia and Nole caps off a super easy week in Tel Aviv with a 3 and 4 win over Cilic.

Hard to fault Denis too much on this one. Nishioka played incredible defense all match and took advantage of weak approaches to hit some great passing shots.

Djokovic advances after a grueling 4-6, 7-6, retired win over Medvedev. Medvedev has been gunning for a rematch all tournament and was brilliant today making Nole play long rallies and backhand after backhand. Daniil definitely was the better player most of the day. But he made one terrible error late in the breaker and Nole took advantage. Nole played grim, determined tennis but hit a sequence of stunning drop shots late in the second set, all of which landed just over the net within six inches of one another. Daniil may have a legit leg injury or he might just have been too emotionally devastated to continue. Hell of a match, maybe top ten for the year despite its curtailed nature.

You must have seen a different match than I, cause Med was not clearly the better player today.

Djokovic thought so, too: ‘I was surprised he retired the match. He looked completely fine. Maybe the last 6-7 points a bit slower. He told me he pulled his adductor muscle. I hope it’s not too serious. He was the better player in both sets.’--Yahoo Sports

Nole with a clinical, dominant straight set win over Tsitsipas and Fritz with a straight set pair of tiebreakers against Tiafoe, who had been on a 13-0 tie breaker win streak. Taylor lands in the top ten and virtually assures himself a place in the tour finals.

Maybe better, but not clearly better, Djokovic had a lot of highlights.

Yeah, The Med match probably boosted Nole even more today, lost just 7 points on serve. What a week for Fritz, he finally broke TB Tiafoe not once but twice, now Foe is on a TB losing streak.

What players do you like, or is it all about Med?

Roger and Rafa, primarily, but I also like Nole, FAA, Alcaraz, Sinner, Rublev, Medvedev, Fritz, Monfils, Bublik, Sock, and Gulbis wherever he is. Basically, I just like to watch good tennis.

It's cool you aren't just into the very top guys, I like a few players myself, I used to be more into Rafa but less so these days, I actually don't have a strong feeling for Fed either way, I like Nole, Shapo, FAA, Tsitsipas, sometimes Rublev, Fritz, Tiafoe, used to be more into Cilic in his prime, Berrettini, Rune, Fognini in his prime, Musetti sometimes, I really like Cerundolo, Draper, Murray in his prime, I too like good tennis, will you be watching the small events this week?

Yeah, I watch everything I can. Like your Musetti, Cerundolo and Draper picks, too. Rune seems a jerk, though maybe he is just immature. Fine game, though, one to watch develop, for sure. Very few players whom I actively dislike these days--pretty much a likable lot. Zverev is the exception--I don't like him.

Yeah, Rune can rub people the wrong way, but I like that he shows he cares a lot and competes hard, he maybe does not have good control over his aggression, kind of like Murray and sometimes Shapo, he does think pretty highly of himself, but I think he's learning, yeah Zverev rubs me the wrong way. I think Cerundolo is one of the finest point constructors out there, really nice to watch on clay, I'm mixed on Alcaraz.

Felix into the final in Florence. He'll face JJ Wolf.

Felix is due for a title...
Felix was amazing today. Musetti was looking good and then out of the blue he had an injury. Felix showed no mercy and kept running him wide, back and forth. So many times when a player gets injured, the other player gets tentative but not this time.

Good thing Felix served brilliantly today because that was likely his sloppiest match of the week. Good thing, too, that he was playing J J, with his bully-boy public court game (tricky quick release first serve, heavy heavy forehand and not much else) and with his vaguely ridiculous on-court persona.

Great to see Felix win another title. He's in Antwerp this week and Denis is in Stockholm. His girlfriend, fellow tennis player Mirjam Björklund, is from there so I'm sure she can show him around

WTA1000 this week in Guadalajara. 4 Canadians in the main draw. Fernandez, Andreescu, Marino (Q) and Bouchard (WC). We'll see if any of them can make a run. Fernandez is in really poor form and drew Bencic first round, so won't be easy...

Bianca drops the first set to Kvitova, then takes the next 2, including a final set bagel! She played really well and Petra crumbled.

Genie won earlier today as well.

First WTA1000 win for Genie in a while.

Fernandez lost a 3 setter to Bencic last night.

Marino has a tough matchup with Garcia later tonight.

Genie knocked back by Ostapenko... Is it just me or does it look like Ostapenko has really been going hard at the post match spreads in the clubhouse? She won't be beating the top players in this condition.
