Raonic up against Kecmanovic today for a spot in the SF.

Andreescu will go tomorrow against Svitolina. Another big test for her.

If Andreescu wants a sneak preview of what she is in for, she should watch a replay of Svitolina's match last night with 19-year-old Vondrousova, another young player with vast potential. Svitolina simply wore her down with consistency and high-percentage play 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, calmly taking advantage of Marketa's impatience on several key points. Elina is going to be a very tough nut to crack.

Yeah, Svitolina is basically like a brick wall back there. Everything comes back.

I'll give Svitolina the edge tomorrow on experience, but hard to bet against Andreescu right now.

Milos looking good, up a break 3-1 in the first.

4-1 after coming back from 30-40.

5-2. He is playing really smart tennis.

6-3 Milos!

1 all on serve in the second

2 all

Good return game from Milos for 4-3 and up a break!

5-3 after a hard fought game.

6-4 Milos with an ace!!!

As he seemingly always does on hard courts, Monfils had an easy time with the hapless Kohlschreiber, winning love and 2. Gael is off to one of the best starts of his career--sure would be nice to see him win a Slam this year, which doesn't seem utterly impossible at the moment given the way that he is playing.

I would love to see him win a major.

Kerber in entertaining straight sets and extremely tough tonight, outduelling Venus dramatically on both second serve and forehand (23 errors for Venus to one for Kerber). She looks more than ready to win this thing.

Federer in straight sets over Hurkacz 4 and 4. Roger looked smooth and graceful, almost regal. Four break point in the match--Fed saved his (both late in the second set); Hurkacz didn't.

My favourite match up. Win Win either way.

And this is why I enjoy this section of HF. You would get so much heat if you said the same thing about, say Boston/Montreal in the main forums or Barcelona/Real Madrid in the soccer section of HF.

Anyways I'm also glad to see this match-up come to fruition as we never know how many more of these duels we'll get, especially on a 'neutral' surface.

P.S. Go Fed

I looked at the first set score and Bianca was down 1-3. Then she won 6-3. She's down 1-3 in the second.

2-4 now. I'm going to bed.

She dropped the 2nd and is up 2-0 in the third

Does Sabalenka seem sort of Wagnerian to anyone else besides me? Sort of Brunnhilde-ish?

Andereescu is one tough cookie--blows her break lead in the third and gets it right back. She changes spin like a veteran.

It was like the perils of Paulene, but she finally pulled it out on the fourth match point. Wow.

She is so strong. She has the body of a female Jose Canseco--big thighs and very powerful through the upper body and shoulders. She can muscle balls over the net that otherwise might fall short. That, plus she seems mature beyond her years. Don't think she will be a flash in the pan by any means.

The "new" Bencic seems remarkably similar to the "old" Bencic--a weak second serve, limited power, and a tendency to make mistakes the longer the point goes. Kerber is not playing great, but she is a set up and it is hard seeing her losing this match.
