Besides getting walked due to foot speed against the lightning a couple times Vlasic has been incredible for a 5D defensive D or a 4D PK specialist on a winning team. He’s been the best, korchinski included.

I'm kinda annoyed that Rehkopf went one spot ahead of the Hawks causing them to trade pick#51 because I'm pretty sure that's who they were targeting there and he's exploded this year.

He’s still very young. Someone with his height is still figuring out his body, and he’s sure to put on weight. When he hits 24-25, then we’ll see what he is. Might very well become a 2 or 3. Let’s give him some time to marinate.

That whole Kitchener team has been incredible it isn't just him. And if they liked Rehkopf that much, they would've picked him over Kantserov at 44.

I personally liked Danny Nelson at that position. Second youngest guy in the draft, big guy, good skater for his size, huge upside etc. but alas. Gonna be fun to follow these kids and where they are in 2-3 years.
Didn't realize Nelson was having a solid start to his college career. Good for him.

I personally would have drafted the 2nd round completely differently.

I don’t like taking goalies that high generally and I also don’t subscribe to drafting MHL players in 2023.

I would have taken Cristall and Heidt

I’m fine with Gajan in the second. He has been playing well this year so far too. You cannot bank on Commesso to be the man as you need a couple in today’s NHL.

And who knows if he would have been available later.

Not even related to Gajan or Commesso. You can find guys for free across Europe and NCAA. Already hard enough to predict 18 year olds. Certainly harder to predict goalies at 18. Would just rather use the 2nd elsewhere.

If you draft a goalie it’s 4th or later for me.

One of the Hawks scouts called Gajan "the most athletic goalie he's ever seen". I like that kind of chance on a guy. The one thing you can say is it's a shame they didn't discover him a year before and draft him. Although you can say that for every team too. But you can tell from the run on goalies after he was picked he wasn't lasting long.

I think we need more size. I would have taken Wahlberg and Rehkopf.

He was by far the most athletic goalie in that draft but he still a lot of development. I didn't really like any of these goalies that early.

Erie got their ass kicked by Kitchener (they are a powerhouse. Absolutely loaded).

Misiak had a goal though. Now has 20 points (10 G + 10 A) in 21 games for Erie.

I’m sure every team thinks very highly of all their picks at the time of the draft, and as I would hope they would given that they made them

This Kitchener story is really interesting, just reading it on main boards. A bottom team last year, made no significant additions but brought in Jussi Ahokas who has lead some finish national teams to impressive results internationally.

Flip the year and they're destroying the league. Some of their players must've had significant jumps of course, but this is a super strong reference for international coaches.

Yeah since we won our last cup, the only cup winning goalie picked in the first 2 rounds was Vasi. Murray, binnington, Holtby, Kuemper, Hill all picked in the third or below.

Can’t say the same for most top forwards on those cup winning teams.
