Man - this D-Von story just keeps changing and changing and ........

from today's ewrestlingnews.com:

D-Von Dudley was supposed to appear at the Battleground Championship Wrestling event on December 17 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA, where he would be in the corner of Bully Ray (Bubba Ray Dudley) in his match that night against Matt Cardona.

He was also scheduled to appear at a convention after the ECW tribute show, but WWE pulled him from the appearance.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he went through John Cone in talent relations, who approved of the booking but it was rejected by Bruce Prichard, who then placed it on Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s desk. Triple H essentially threatened to fire him if he made the booking. Meltzer wrote,

“WWE did pull Devon Hughes (D-Von Dudley) from the event, both the live show and the convention. He was scheduled to be in the corner of Bubba Ray for his match with Matt Cardona. He went through John Cone in talent relations who reportedly approved of the booking, and he believed based on his contract, since he’s not a wrestler, that he was able to do things like that. Bruce Prichard nixed the booking, and it ended up on the desk of Paul Levesque. Hughes has said he was going to do it because he gave his word on it and Levesque didn’t give approval, and he was basically told if he did it, he’d be fired, so he didn’t do it. There was no real reason past the claim that they didn’t want him in a physical risk, but I’m not sure how much physical risk there is in pulling out a table since he was not scheduled for any physicality himself.”

Additionally, there was a clip prepared of Terry Funk telling D-Von to “get the tables,” which would have played during the match.

According to the report, BCW released their later statement to repair their relationship with WWE, as they didn’t want the company to stop more legends from appearing for BCW events.

I don’t see Hunter as being that petty, though I could be wrong. But it might be a case where they don’t want to have people asking for forgiveness instead of permission.

Holliday was a source for stories. There was Hulk Hogan in agony with back pain, lying on the ground in The Keg restaurant in Brandon, where a waitress was asked to walk up and down the Hulkster’s spine.

Or Hogan on bass guitar as Mean Gene Okerlund sang at the Polo Park Inn’s cocktail lounge.

Or getting knocked down by Jerry Blackwell. Or the time Mad Dog Vachon fed him Ex-Lax.

Watching Ric Flair's Last Match on Fite+ and this is easily the worst match of the entire year. I heard he looked awful but this was beyond awful and never should've been allowed to happen.

Dragon Lee is great, but it’s another luchador in a mask that will have trouble getting over in the WWE.
ESPN of all people breaking the news is weird. Guessing they leaked it.

Anyways, it appears that they have eyes again on expanding NXT as a global entity. Shawn said they want to get into Mexico, and they will need someone of this level to do that. But they’re also gonna sign more luchadors.

Apparently he won the AAA tag belts and then announced he was WWE bound.

They put a mask on NXT UK's A-Kid, renamed him Axiom on NXT US and the kid is way more over now. Putting on great matches every time he's on tv.

Let's see how over he is when they travel and move cities, bigger arenas, etc.

The NXT "crowd" will cheer for a ham sandwich.

Mike Tenay delivers some sad news:

Damn. I wasn't a big fan of his commentary but I met him at a TNA house show in 2011 and he was the nicest man in the world. We had some kind of VIP type tickets and it included getting a tour of the ring set up and such and giving us deals on merchandise and Don West was the guy running that. I was wearing a Habs hat. I asked him if I could get a picture with him and he said "yes, but only because you're wearing that hat." I guess he was a Habs fan.

Don West was a force of nature. He wasn’t like anyone else to ever do the job and that came with obvious pluses and minuses…but when you look back at his body of work and compare it to what‘s come after in color commentary…it leaves an unmistakable and positive mark.

You can’t fake the enthusiasm he brought. Not many people in the world have it.

A rumor I just read is Ripley vs. Rousey at Wrestlemania. Who's the face/heel in that? Because both are better off as heels.

If they can figure out a way around the roster split (which shouldn't be hard because they don't seem to care about that anyway), then I think the better options are Belair vs. Rousey or Belair vs. Ripley. Or Rousey vs Becky. Something like that.
