It could be, but it makes more sense to promote it, especially since people are talking about her today. AEW is not into false advertising. Suprises on TV makes less sense than people think.
I’m willing to bet my condo on it being a swerve. I think Shida is going to turn heel and turn on Toni.

Maybe something else happens on Rampage to set it up. I just don't know why you wouldn't announce it if she's going to be there.

It doesn’t need to be announced. The speculation is enough.

Why would they go through this whole “mystery partner” thing for a few weeks, only to have it be Toni? That would be a complete underwhelming failure.

Maybe they wanted to and couldn’t get her. Speculation you can do, drop hints, but once they announce something else, I don’t see it as likely unless there’s another angle run.

Nahhh, I just can’t see it. That’s a colossal failure if that’s the case. When Britt called herself the “Boss” in the interview, that’s a seed planted.

Can’t see it being Toni. I think we’re getting a Toni/Shida feud.

Actually, you know what I just thought of, since her deal is with New Japan/Stardom, they probably want that Wrestle Kingdom episode on AXS to air first.

I think AEW rarely announces debuts ahead of time. I love it.

Punk, Danielson, Moxley, Sting, Saraya, Miro, Black, Brodie Lee, Adam Cole, Samoa Joe - I believe these were all unannounced even if some of them were heavily speculated.

Well Punk is borderline but obvious. But other than that, I really can't think of someone with some name value who's debut was announced ahead of time in AEW.

Some of those were at PPV’s or big shows like Grand Slam or Winter Is Coming. Depends who it is. Like, Samoa Joe isn’t much of a needle mover, but enough that suprise is worth it. A PPV is a different game because they can promote off that.

Jericho talked about it one day. When Paul Wight showed up (imagine), Turner was upset he was a surprise because they wanted to promote that.

I can't believe nobody else caught the " big hint " that was dropped tonight that Sasha Banks is coming in - during the Baker and Hayter interview Baker called herself " the boss " of the AEW Women's Division. Subtle - but still pretty obvious. :thumbu:

Has there been an pre-announced debut in AEW for someone that has some name value? I can't think of any.

Maybe some New Japan guys but I'm not familiar with them.

You would think if they promoted it that it could increase viewers, didn't Turner say a while back that they didn't like the surprises because of that ?

You might be right. Most of the bigger names were saved for PPVs, but were generally (purposely) not well-kept secrets.
