What to do with Mo

I am starting to hate Rielly as much as I hated Barrie last year.

No excuse for his poor play when he is expected to lead the d-core.

It's really stark contrasting his defensive game and situational awareness to Justin Holl who wasn't even a full time NHLer like 1.5 years ago. The guy's game processor is just not good.

44 has amazing skating ability, some decent vision with the puck.
Might be the worst decision maker in critical situations without the puck.
He still baffles me with some of the stuff he does... tonight for instance, turn around, skate back straight and hard... at least make them work for it.

The excuses for this clown have been high every year.
Point production low? Excuse: no PP time
Bad defensively? Excuse: it's a rotation. He is following a system.
Weak shot: he uses a long stick.

You should post that backcheck as well. Doesn't look over his shoulder, isolates a man, and lets another go on a breakaway. I was like WTF, why didn't you just stay in the middle?

Just awful stuff all around. We can improve defensively all we want, but when a horrific defensive player is your #1 D, it won't matter.

I truly believe he is the most overrated defenceman in the league. I mean everyone has him penciled in on their Team Canada Olympic team. It's crazy!

Rielly is DEFINITELY overrated. He's got the tools, but damn if his decision making isn't crap alot of the time. If only he could improve that part of his game he'd be legit elite. At this point I hope we can trade him for a good package than sign him to a big deal like we did with Phaneuf.

If this dude's fav team wasn't the Leafs growing up he'd be long gone and banished from here.

I've been called a clown, dirtbag, joke, fair weather fan etc in this thread. I am glad some people are finally see what a few of us have been saying for a while now - Mo is incredibly inconsistent, and you need a lot more from you #1.

I am still dumbfounded by people posting in earlier pages they would happily give him 7+. Imagine if we allocated 18 million to Mo and JT?

To me he has all the tools but not the toolkit, Brodie has been great in his role, Rielly seeming more and more like a 3D/2D, rather than a 1D.

Quite frankly I think Justin Holl and even Muzzin have been better than Rielly for the better part of a year a now.

I think Mo could be a decent #2 if he was with a legit stud like Jones. I am not sold he can anchor any pairing playing top 4 minutes, though.

He's a bigger Torey Krug with worse decision-making and no shooting ability.

The team's record has been masking major systemic issues that have been recurring for many seasons. They are playing better team defense, but with the current player personnel its like putting a square peg into a round hole.

This won't be the last debacle.

I defended him enough in past years and now I'm sick of it. Eventually only so much team can do to support you. They've brought countless guys in and he still cant do jackshit. Sorry. One good season does not make you a player. It makes you a one-hit wonder with high shooting %.

Trade him. Get rid of Andersen too.

*Changed my vote to demote to 3rd pair. Initially was give him more time. I've had enough.

Matty's body language on that play says it all. Complete disappointment. Maybe unprofessional but he's human and hattricks have been hard to come by for a goal scorer of his calibre. Really disappointing display of selfishness by a guy who was once considered as a potential captain for this team. He's looked off better options in OT to try to be the hero in the past and I've overlooked it but this one is glaring considering the circumstances.

Man I just can't get over this one...

You have the best goal scorer in the league wide open... it's 3 on 3 OT where a blocked shot can easily lead to a lost game... your goalie can't stop a god damn beach ball.... and you look him off and fire into a crowd of players?!?!

WHAT THE f*** MAN...

I ain't going to bat for this guy anymore.. screw him.

These two illustrations of Rielly's defensive play show that he's been a liability for longer than we've wanted to admit, guy has a knack for making dumbass plays.

You can't be a #1 Defenseman when your DEFENSIVE numbers are the worst on the team yet your partner is the best on the team...

Just horrendous.

I've been down on Brodie lately, but I really want to see him with a different partner.

It's one thing if Matthews gets the pass and doesn't score because he was stopped or the puck missed the net, however Rielly should have seen where Matthews was and pass the puck to him.

I assume Rielly would have known Matty was looking for a hat trick also? Either Rielly was selfish there or not very smart...not good either way. What's also disappointing was after Rielly shot right into the Ottawa player, he panicked and couldn't even play Ottawa's counterattack correctly.

Even if Matthews had not already scored 2 goals last night if he's open like that Rielly needs to pass him him the puck.
