Vanek just costs too much in assets, especially for Dean who very rarely ever risks assets on rentals. Also, his cap hit isn't easy to make work.
Yep. But bluechipgonzo seems to think otherwise.

While Habs goal is to ink Markov to extension, quietly talking to teams about deadline deal too. Kings are one of them (partner for Doughty)

Vanek is too much of a floater. I never see him get into that "extra gear" that you want to see from a winger in critical games/situations. Big pass on him. Don't want him as a UFA either because he's going to be grossly overpaid. Would rather be patient and wait for Bobby Ryan to become available. Would much rather have him than Vanish.

...throw in TTT on the RW as the sniper and that line would be top notch.
We could certainly use his 35 goals/year average.
You guys can't complain about some guys defense and then champion signing Bobby Ryan, he is as bad a defensive forward as there is in the league and adds nothing besides offense.
I am not against signing him because there is a place for one dimensional skilled players, but he is far from a "Lombardi Player"
I agree, but whenever we have talked about acquiring or keeping players like that people there is always an outcry about how they are one dimensional and not Lombardi type players.
Yet when it comes to Bobby Ryan it seems people forget that he is a one-trick pony as well.
Habs fans have been chewing on Markov to LA rumours for well over a week, near as I can tell.
Depending on the construct of the deal, if Lombardi felt he could comfortably extend Markov, I say do it. We have a few guys (Clifford, Pearson, Greene, Muzzin) MTL could be interested in, to make it a hockey trade rather than a deadline selloff.
Habs fans have pointed out that Markov has slowed down a lot, though. It would be amazing to have him and Doughty on the PP, but I don't know what kind of minutes we could give him. Maybe have him with Voynov? Shrug. It would definitely be helpful imo.
I think the price for a Vanek rental will be too high, but dude, Vanek is a gamer.
The guy is like Jeff Carter and has a knack for getting the puck in the net.
In the playoffs with Buffalo, he's come up big. I couldn't disagree with you more.
At the risk of overgeneralizing hockey archetypes, I still argue we need 'playmakers' more than 'goalscorers' to get our current 30-40 goal scorers on the board now.
I would actually prefer Markov over Ehrhoff, assuming, we can get him for significantly cheaper.
