True. But nowadays with the Cap I think it's easier to bury or get rid of a player and there is much more competition. Guys are always on there heels or any moment they could end up on waivers...Following the Kings since the early 90's, I don't remember as many players being put on waivers as they are now...

I think Brown knows in the back of his mind he can still be dealt or bought out if he continues to suck.

Welcome to pro sports, when you don't produce you get critiqued. Brown should get down on his knees and kiss the Manhattan Beach ground because if he was in a bigger hockey market he'd be getting it from the fans wherever he went. Again, it's way too easy to play here, you can have the worst season of your career and still go to the grocery store and nobody even knows who you are. No pressure from the fans or the one media person who follows the Kings who is also paid by the Kings. It's hockey Utopia when you stink-and Brown stinks right now.

That's a very good point. Could you imagine Philly fans/media, and Montreal fans? Clarkson gets a lot of heat but I am surprised he does not get more in T.O.

I am also a 90's fan. I think it is more likely that we hear about the waiver moves more frequently due to social media and an internet presence.

I always look to DocWest for "the big picture" view. This makes me disappoint. Real disappoint.
It's okay. I can ***** about the main boards if that helps smooth things over.

I love Brown, but with his declined play and contract it would be hard to not listen to an offer that would send him the other way and get us something decent in return. With that said, I don't think many teams out there will want to give up anything of value for him right now.

What would fan or media pressure do for Brown though? GM, ok. Ownership, maybe. But players? Are you going to hassle them at the grocery store? If he's having a terrible year, he's having a terrible year. What can you do? It's not like anyone saw this coming.

At the time Brown signed his new deal I don't think anyone would have predicted that he would have a terrible season this season. Once he became injured in the playoffs, I think it was a definite possibility.

Now is this the beginning of an inevitable decline that will occur some day before his new contract expires? Some people seem rather sure that it is the beginning of the decline, I'm not so sure.

I think Brown still has quite a bit of trade value around the NHL, and if Dean could gain a valuable piece (a long term partner for Doughty) by dealing Brown I would support that kind of move.

NEWZ?

As much as the Kings are looking for a scoring LWer, they are pressing hard for a top-4 defenseman. GM Lombardi wants both.

That's setting the bar fairly high. A) Brown is an entrenched captain, for better or worse, and they don't usually get traded on whims. 2) Brown at his best is more of a 2nd line winger, and there can't be many chances to trade that type of player for a young/young-ish 1st pairing defenseman. Not saying it can't happen, but nobody should blame Lombardi if it doesn't happen.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a defenseman that one would normally consider to be a top pairing defenseman. Just a guy that can keep up with Doughty and be a regular partner that plays a steady game.

I wouldn't blame Dean at all if the that type of defenseman isn't available in the trade market at a reasonable price. This is an issue that may not be able to get fixed until the off season when Dean has more flexibility with Mitchell and Greene both coming off the books. I prefer to keep Greene over Regehr, but it may not be possible.

The olympics just reinforced what Doughty is capable of offensively. I hope DL can aquire another dman who can compliment Drew. Basically if we get the right dman we can become a lot better offensivley as well as defensively.

I know players tend to get overrated come trade deadline time, but I have no idea why all these outlets are pushing MacDonald so much, he's just not good at all. I'm saying it right now, I will be insanely disappointed if we give-up anything decent for MacDonald

DL wants both? Wow. Look what he has to give up the past few years to get guys like Penner, RR, and Carter...I can only imagine what it would cost to get two guys at one deadline.

More on LA: I believe the Kings would like to get their hands on NYI's MacDonald. On all your Qs about Ehrhoff, don't see it at all.

Agreed. Don't at all see the appeal.

Especially since that would likely mean bye-bye to Martinez, who I see as at least on par with macDonald if not flat out better. Makes little sense.

Strange to see the claims of the Kings going after Girardi. He's a right shot and Lombardi likes to keep his defense on their hand side. Unless they plan on moving Greene, but even then, Girardi wouldn't play with Doughty, which is what we really need.

I've read that Edler from Vancouver is available. I know he's had an off year or so, but I always like his play before that. Hes still relatively young at 27 and is a lefty. A change of scenery may get him back on his game. DL would have to get him in a 3 way trade seeing as how Vancouver probably wouldn't want him in their division.

Edit-Ouch just saw Edler's cap hit is 5mil for quite a number of years. Wouldn't be so scary if not for his recent struggles.

I want no part of Alex Edler. He's horrid defensively. Switching teams won't alleviate that.

Maybe, but would you give up some pieces that seem to be redundant on the Kings.

Clifford, Martinez and a pick for MacDonald (must be able to sign him) and Grabner.

DL has to be one stupid sob to do that.

and what do we do when that guy has a bad third or half of a season.... and hasn't ever won a cup or help build the Kings team culture from scratch...?

Brown will probably dominate some games in the playoffs with a timely hit or two and a couple of goals - he wakes up in the post season. Remember 2012!?

GKG!!

East Coast guy.. they're familiar with him. So he's easy to write about.

MacDonald leads the league in blocked shots. Couple of goal saving plays from MacDonald:

He also leads the Islanders in ice time and leads their defense in powerplay points.
