20th overall and McMicheal would be the min amount I would hope we could get in return.
Iorio? Big RHD, two way play, defense before offense, great breakout pass, willing to be physical, and a local kid to boot. I would love to bring him home.

I would think Iorio would be a target. Big two-way d from Coquitlam.
They also have Max Lapierre ... but I think getting Protas would be interesting. 6'6, 230 lb Belarus center did well in NHL games. Can help with Klimovich.

Hard to say. I imagine a Lapierre, McMichael, or Iorio would be available to start.
I think the caps would want an extension in place for Miller for that kinda deal. Just guessing though.

If Canucks could sign him to a reasonable deal, then they probably wouldn't want to trade him to Washington, I think.

Truth. I think what I meant to say is that they would have discussed an extension with Miller before hand (WSH that is).

Ah, can two teams discuss his contract even though he's in Vancouver? What if Washington backs out at the last minute?

I would think Vancouver would grant permission to discuss the framework it would require but not all the details. I believe it has been done before.
That all being said the source was Friedman...so who knows what happens. Vancouver will have a long list of teams knocking on the door for Miller.

JT Miller's contract situation has an impact on how much teams are willing to offer for Miller. If look at what Mika Zibanejad got last fall, 8 years and $8.5M is a fair comparison for Miller. How many teams have cap space in 23-24 to give Miller $8.5M? Nazem Kadri will get $8.5M in free agency. Maybe a little less. Not much less. Flat cap for 23-24 and maybe 24-25. Miller will be 30. The Vancouver people don't bring that up. Vancouver doesn't want or can't pay Miller long-term so let the acquiring team deal with the headache. However, the acquiring team has the same issues Vancouver has regarding the contract extension. There are some teams which have the space to pay Miller $8.5M per for 8 seasons. Not the Rangers. The Rangers have $49.8M committed to six players and four of those players have NMC's through at least 23-24.
Same thing with Brock Boeser. He has a $7.5M QO due to him in a few weeks. He has another QO due to him next July. I read the Canucks have tried to get Boeser signed to a new deal for less than $7.5M. Why would Boeser do that? Vancouver gave him that contract. His agent negotiated that contract. The acquiring team doesn't want to inherit the headache.

I wonder if teams like the Stars, Islanders, Blue Jackets, Jets, Kings, and Predators will be interested in Miller. Teams that are good but need a boost offensively if they want to get to contender status.
Nashville might not fit that description as I believe they were pretty good offensively last season but if they lost Forsberg that’ll be tough to repeat.

Would Sheifele for Miller be a fair trade? I guess the Jets would need to confirm an extension with Miller.

Only issue is that miller can't sign an extension until July 13th which is after the draft so not sure if caps can trade 20th pick
But the acquiring team can confirm interest in resigning and potential $ and term. If it is desirable, they can trade at draft and start working on an extension on the 13th.
Someone had posted a Friedman tweet at a different forum suggesting this, but with a 2nd as well going to Vancouver.
Its definitely 100% sounding like Miller will be gone as soon as the draft. AGM Ryan Johnson with some quotes this morning.

I can confirm the confirmations which confirm everything we've been hearing every day for the past 6 months.
If Washington is worried about the extension date not being until after the draft and arent comfortable with handshake deals then i dont mind the following trade in lieu of the 20th pick being part of the package. Actually id rather prefer this trade.

If he is extended at the time of trade, we need more than this. This(using 20oa instead of 2023 1st) would be a good return pre-draft with no guarantee of extension in place.
If Washington is confident they can re-sign him after the trade or would do a handshake wink wink extension pre draft then im fine with a draft day trade of:

Mcmichael
Iorio
The Caps are a really good partner, as they will likely have Backstroms $ available to them to sign Miller longer term. They also want to contend during Ovies last few years. I'd do McMichael, Lorio, #20 for sure. If the pick is next year, and the deal is for a retained/extended Miller, I'd push the Jets 2nd to be added. Waiting an extra year for the 1st diminished some value in my eyes.
