Man, his playmaking... He looks like a winger version of Joe Thornton sometimes. Waiting for him to get some greasy goals like he did last year, though.

The play he made on the second Nick goal is how he should always play
Keep Slaf with Suzuki. The two have great chemistry and Slaf's boardplay really makes Suzuki dangerous because he has to do less work than he does with CC.

I still remember arguing with a lot of people that he was not a power forward and he wasn't magically going to gain a goal-scoring touch. He's always been a pass first guy and he's strong on the puck. He's not physical or a power forward, nor a goal scorer. People extrapolated way too much out of 7 olympic games. He's not a bust though at least. Poor mans Rantanen who may become an equal version, nothing wrong with that.

I'd be careful with putting a ceiling on this kid.
He's not a power forward like the Tkachuks but not many are.. in terms of being a new age power forward, he certainly can be that and his shot ability are more than enough to be in the mix for 30 goal seasons.
Yes he's more of a skilled playmaker in a big body, but this isn't Latendresse here.

The thing I really didn't like about Slaf prior to the draft was the same thing that gave me blinders and made me laser-focused on his mistakes and misplays. Obviously he played much, much better in the second half of last year but that thing to which I refer is his inconsistency in all facets. He's inconsistent with playing the body -- okay fair enough, it's very taxing and not sustainable. He's inconsistent with his playmaking -- less excusable. He's inconsistent with his driving. He's inconsistent with his shooting decisions. etc.
Against Buffalo, despite the points, I thought he had a difficult match up to his own capabilities. He lost the puck in board battles he should never ever lose the puck. He's too much of a monster.
Get mean, be aggressive, be a bully for god's sake.
He's young and he's a project and he can accomplish a lot on the ice if it all comes together. I'm afraid we'll always be feeling like there's more to come. This is a double-edged sword. We don't know his ceiling but we won't ever feel like he's hit it either. This is the case with inconsistent players. We can hope something clicks in him. I'd lock him next to Suzuki, call 'em Pinky & the Brain.

Not sure if trolling but he's curently pacing for 64.42 points in 82 games. His lack of goals is disappointing but i would not read too mujch into that after only 14 games. Hockey IQ is his best asset ....

Malkin has HOF IQ. There's someone in between that and low IQ. low IQ, mid IQ, high IQ, elite IQ, HOF IQ, generational IQ. Slaf definitely has higher than average IQ.

Many will castigate you for this perspective, but, really, if you watch Slafkovsky play absent bias and the natural desire to see him perform well to justify his selection, his performance this year has been radically sub-par. There have been precious few standout moments or demonstrations of skill; eleven points in seventeen games with only a single goal is radically disappointing in the extreme, particularly when he's generating no scoring chances and rarely seems to even be able to get off a shot, averaging just over one per game.
Frankly, the conclusion to his previous year is looking more like a fluke statistical anomaly considering how poor his hockey sense and decision making has been from the outset - one of his great deficiencies that led him to taking so many massive hits in the first year.
