Not to mention Tage literally had a very mediocre season last year after putting up 94 the year before. Progression isn't just a straight upward pointing arrow, even when players set a new standard, they take some time to equalize.
Some players never do equalize. Some players remain up and down their whole career. Very few players are perfectly constant. That's why you want a core of at least 5-6 players so if one is having a down year it's not that big of a deal. When Avs won the cup they had McKinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Landeskog, Nichuskin, Kadri, Burakovski, Lehkonen, Toews, .... 2 or 3 injuries / slump was not a big deal.

Tage Thompson was also a 27th overall and panned under a different organization. Yes patience but I'm not sure he's a good example.

Slaf will be fine, I'm not concerned with his play. He'd do much better with Suzuki anyway.
MacKinnon had only 21 goals and 52 points -4 in his 3rd season. Only 1 more points than Carl Soderberg on the same team. MacKinnon worst season was his 4th with only 16 goals and 53 points -14 in his first 80+ games season in the last 3 years. The whole Avs team regressed that year and finished dead last by a whole margin (21 points below 2nd last). Not saying Slaf is the next MacKinnon not the same type of talent but people should chill out.

Yeah sure I'm not too concerned. I'm just saying the Tage comparison is worthless.

. I’m not saying Slaf needs to get 94 points, but he does need to be our power forward scoring 30 plus. He’s certainly not on track for that.

It’s not worthless. Are they not similar types of players? Both big, power forwards. Why is that not a good comparison?

Because every player is different. The investment inst the same, the skills aren't the same, the situation isn't the same, the progression isn't the same, etc.

Maybe he's just not that bright. A great athlete, with great executions, but he sometimes fail to identify the best play. It takes him too long to make decisions imo. Hence why his passes are intercepted/blocked. I think it's fixable though, the right habits will form with experience.

And he definitely needs to shoot more. Like wayyyyyy more.

I’d like to see a second line of

Anderson Dach Slafkovsky for more than one game.

He needs to olay with elite and Anderson seem to have a good season right now it could give them a spark.

Plus it would be a big line with grit speed and talent.

If I was the coach, Slafkovsky wouldn’t leave Suzuki’s wing. It’s important he keeps progressing but he’s becoming a victim of our poor top 6 and other guys underperforming.

1 goal and 17 shots in 11 games!
He's shooting more than he did at the start of last season. The sh% is half what he had last season thought, but he played with an upper body injury for a bit. And he's shooting more despite the total lack of sustained possession from the team this year compared to last season.

I actually call that progress. His main hurdle right now is self-confidence.

He doesn't look as strong or as assertive as last season. Development is not linear. It took MacKinnon into his 5th season to break out.

I thought he looked better on that part the last 2-3 games. He gets out with the pucks from the boards more often. He also has the most hits on the habs this season.

As his countryman I am a huge fan, but he simply isnt good enough this year.
His play without the puck is awful!
His feet dont move and thats why he is always one step too late.
He watches and reacts instead of predict and surprise!
He needs to go back to the 1st line, otherwise he will lose even more confidence.

And please, DO NOT let him play with Dach on the same line FFS!
Dach is turning every linemate into worst version of themself right now!

Lightyears better player than Caufield and the 3rd period showed that in spades. The first line was actually dangerous because the puck being sent along the boards in the offensive zone wasn't an immediate possession loss.

My issue with Slaf is he is unable to skate with the puck especially in neutral zone. He tends to toe pick every 6 strides. He needs someone who drives the play to get him the puck. He will never be a guy who can drive the play. I hope I'm wrong but he looks lost.

He still takes too many big hits. He got absolutely smoked by Knies, I'm surprised more people didn't acknowledge that.
