Someone mentioned Nylander+ earlier; Im not a Nucks fan so don’t know about their situation well but that seems like a good base for a deal

Cuz the Nucks top 6 looks pretty solid, plus they got Hughes and Demko. Like it’s nothing to shake your head at. If they can replace Miller with another solid piece and make a couple other moves for their D in FA maybe they can be a great team next year.

Idk anything about their cap situation but they’ve got all their picks the next couple years besides a 2nd this year and a 7th next. Add some of those to move out contracts if needed.

It isn't a good base for a deal because the Canucks don't need more wingers. Allvin is trying to trade up to 3 of them (depending on who you ask). The team needs futures, salary relief and RHD. Unless the Leafs are adding a stupid overpayment like Liljegren or something, no thanks.

I believe we’re better off keeping the pick as well. Too many players available in the top 5 that fit a direct need for us. NJ isn’t actively shopping the pick. The only statement that was made by GM Tom Fitzgerald since winning the 2nd OA pick in the lottery is that they’re going to make a list of players that they would be willing to trade the 2nd OA pick for. It’s probably a very small list of players that would be considered an overpayment.

Respectfully I'm not trying to tell you what you should think (the players available at #2 are indeed fantastic), but Boeser & Marino is a hell of a haul for that pick imo. Boeser's a first line winger when he's on - was going at a 70 pt pace last season. And Marino is a legit top 3D that's locked up @ 4.4M. Both young enough to grow w/ NJ's young players.

If I was New Jersey I would definitely consider that, its the kind of a pie-in-sky proposal that doesn't ever happen though.

For Van its alot going out value-wise but that #2 pick would be a nice asset. If we got it I'd be tempted to trade down a few spots (4-5-6) & take Jiricek.

There's a debate about this on the Penguins board, so I want to see what Canucks fans think. On the scale of 1-5, with 1 being very bad, 3 being okay and 5 being very good, how would you rank a package of Marino, Kapanen's RFA rights, Poulin and a 1st for Miller?

I'd say like 3.5-4. Valuewise definitely a 4, but I think Canucks fans are hoping for a high end young prospect/player as the center piece (nothing against Marino).

My dream scenario would be getting a high pick that lands us Jiricek.

as I've said in the previous Miller thread,
Kakko/Kravtsov + Schneider/Lundkvist + 20231st

I don't think Schneider is as untouchable as a lot of NYR fans would believe. Not because I don't think he's going to be very, very good. But because of how long it takes for dmen to hit their stride and become major factors. K'Andre Miller is JUST starting to play at a level above "he's just kind of there and doesn't make many mistakes." From serviceable to a difference maker every shift. It's taken 4 years. The Rangers really don't have that kind of time to wait for Schneider to hit his potential, unfortunately.

Their window is with Kreider, Panarin, Zibanejad, Shesterkin and Fox in their primes. 3-4 seasons from now, those first 3 you have to believe will start to decline pretty hard.

Love Schneider but I would absolutely move him for JT Miller. That's a dude that puts us over the top quite easily. We should've never let him go in the first place

I think Schneider was the make/break piece for Vancouver at the TDL. I think Kakko & Schneider unanimously gets it done from our side.

And from the Rangers side, just a personal feeling, but I'd think JT would love to go back to New York (as far as re-signing goes). He would be a great fit. Could see him playing well with & helping out Lafrienere.

This is my prediction. This is what’s going to go down at the draft.

- Gary Bettman comes to the podium for the 2nd overall pick. New Jersey devils trade the 2nd overall pick and Dean Severson to the Vancouver Canucks for JT Miller and the 15th overall pick.

- Vancouver Canucks draft Slafkovsky.
- Vancouver trades Conor Garland and 2nd round pick in 2023 draft to the Los Angeles kings for Brendt Clark.
- Sign Boeser to Extension at 6 million over 5 years.

So at the end of the day we save about 5 million in salary. Added a top four defenseman in Severson for immediate help on the blue line. We have a superstar forward prospect in Slafkovsky and a superstar defenseman prospect and Clarke. Both very close to being NHL ready.

With the money saved we can sign Copp in free agency and Lazar. This will help us transition away from Miller and Garland. Ultimately taking a step back in 2023 for a shot at the next Connor. Thoughts?

The JT Miller trade is fair enough, we'd take that.
But I'd say there is a near 0% chance Brandt Clarke is the return in a Garland trade.

Lol! A bit of both perhaps. How about we had Hoglander as well? So that’s Garland, signed reasonable and long-term. The second round pic in the 2023 draft that’s supposed to be super strong. Hog is Young forward with tons of upside still. Potential top sex, definitely Middle six. For a unproven RHD prospect. I don’t think it’s terrible?

As a Devils fan I love it. There is nothing more noble than charity.

Now we just have to find that Dean Severson.

Miller's name has been in the rumor mill for too long to just be smoke and mirrors. What exactly is a fair deal in your eyes? He's going to get a 7 x 9-10.5 mil or a 8 x 8-9.5 mil with whatever team he signs with.

Everything you said is pretty run of the mill - players saying they want to say, being part of marketing efforts, etc. If Vancouver's main priority was to get him re-signed, they'd simply say Miller wasn't available to the media. It doesn't stop them from working out the right deal, but it does stop the media from making all these speculations.

The only time GMs allow a name to be thrown back into the rumor mill over and over again is to let every team know that he's more or less going to be traded to the highest bidder.
Or it's the fact that Miller plays for large hockey market that has had a few down years with inept management and is a soon to be UFA. It's easy click bait for media heads to constantly bring his name up in trade talks. Rutherford has openly said he's listening to trade calls on pretty much everyone. The guy is aging yet his value is trending up.

the devils need rhd. the devils strength is forwards and the devils are no contender.

miller is not a fit. severson lead the devils in toi for the last four seasons. it's a very easy no for the devils.
Miller isn't what NJ is missing to take the next step, and NJ won't give up what Vancouver wants so they can take the next step.

I'll throw in my full support for these trades on the condition that they at least work in 2k whatever, we all know trades approved in video games would be approved in real life so....
